Dear Friend,
I wanted to let you know about the important work Media Matters for America is doing to help set the record straight on global warming. As you and I both know, the media dialogue on global warming is infected with conservative misinformation. Even though there is a clear consensus in the scientific community, too often pundits and journalists advance false, misleading, and baseless claims about our looming environmental crisis.

In an effort to stem the tide of conservative misinformation in global warming media coverage, Media Matters has embarked on a campaign to arm us and members of the media with the facts.
You should check out their new Global Warming Misinformation Action Center. There you will find a comprehensive list of conservative myths and falsehoods as well as the latest and most popular items in the news -- all focused on global warming.
The Global Warming Misinformation Action Center gives us the facts we need to better recognize and fight back when we see conservative misinformation.

You just have to see some of the examples of conservative misinformation being spread through the media. Some of them include claims that human activity is not a substantial cause of global warming; that Antarctic ice is increasing, not decreasing; that former Vice President Al Gore is exaggerating; and that carbon dioxide is not bad for the environment.
Worse yet, over the past few years, coverage on the global warming issue has regularly:
- Presented global warming skeptics without noting their relationships with the oil, gas, and coal industries
- Given global warming skeptics the same prominence as those within the large scientific consensus on the issue, thus elevating their opinions to a position nearly equal to those among the vast majority of experts
- Cited cold regional weather as evidence that global warming does not exist.
It would be unbelievable if it weren't true. How can anyone make an informed decision on such an important issue if they aren't receiving factual information from the media? That's why I was glad to hear that in the coming weeks and months, Media Matters will continue to monitor print, radio, broadcast, and Internet media and debunk these and other false global warming claims.

That way we can both stay informed and help fight back against those who would rather muddy the waters in this debate than solve problems that face us all.
Thanks!
