NYPost columnist suggests Obama will "stab" and shoot Israel in the back

January 05, 2009 3:05 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Post pro-war columnist Ralph Peters, an Iraq war cheerleader who all but declared that war won in March, 2003, claimed that Israeli "government leaders and generals" are suddenly concerned that incoming Democratic president Barack Obama will "stab" Israel in the back by withdrawing practical and political support once he takes office.

Peters' proof for his claim? He had none. He didn't quote a single Israeli politician or military leader on the record. He didn't quote anybody off the record. He didn't point to a single utterance picked up by the Israeli or foreign press. Peters had zero facts to back up his far-fetched claim that the United States would, pretty much for the first time since the creation of Israeli state, withdraw its support from the nation when the new Democrat takes office.

Peters had nothing to back up his claim, but that didn't stop him from using violent rhetoric to scare readers about Obama. Along with claiming that (unknown) Israeli leaders fear being stabbed in the back, Peters also stressed, "Israeli soldiers should not have to go into battle worrying about an American bullet in the back." [Emphasis added.]

BTW, readers should note that the Post now refers to president-elect Barack Obama as "BAM" in its Op-ed page headlines. Nothing disrespectful there, right?

WE ARE AT PRESENT SEEING an attempt by the relatively narrow and few people who own and program the televised media, to intimidate and pressure our new President Obama, into thinking he must somehow actively get involved in and stop the current violence in Gaza, and in Israel.

Our new President needs to do no such thing, as it does not involve our own National Security, but that of Israel's, and of the people of Gaza.

Our new President has no such mandate or even instruction from us, to involve himself (and thereby us) into the violence in Gaza and surrounding Israel.

It's not only not our desire or wish, it's a plain bad idea, period.

Neither our new President or we, have any National Security business of our own, in Gaza.

So the televised media should just stand down their idiocy in these things, because we don't need to hear it.

And I had said this media's idiotic ramblings about Gaza are meant to pressure and intimidate our new President. Let me correct that: I think these idiocies are meant to influence and manipulate us, into thinking our new President needs to involve himself (and thereby us) in this matter.

We don't think that, and I hope our new President knows this. I hope he doesn't watch or listen to these televised idiots: or if he does, I hope he doesn't weigh seriously their idiocies

It's true: the idiotic rantings of the televised media, are meant to influence and manipulate the American People (and perhaps the President too, if he is so dim as to spend much time watching televised pundits)... it's true, that's what those relatively few and narrow people who program the televised media do: they influence and manipulate the opinions of the American People, using our own Public Airwaves.

As for the President, it is not (or should not be) television that does that, but his own Cabinet and Staff (and maybe his wife and kids too, I don't know them personally).

The puppy was long ago trained not to pee on the rug, and has now grown into a dog who knows every signal possible, to get my attention and let him out into the great outdoors, and do his business where nature intended, and where he loves to do it (just not on the lawn please)...

And I haven't had a bird in a cage for many years...

And so having no need to paper-train a puppy, or line a bird cage, I now have no real need for any newspaper, especially for the thing that blares out in bold OVER-TYPE that it is called the NYPOST.

But I still sometimes purchase a newspaper: you see, newspaper is also a great way to start the kindling into a fire, under the coal in the coal pot, of my Chubby Coal Stove (and I love burning coal right through a sub-freezing night, and never hearing the furnace come on at all, except briefly to heat the hot-water tank).

So I still have that use of a newspaper: as the first of several fires, from kindling to coal, to warming the house on a frosty overnight.

But I never bother buying the NYPOST even for that task, as why would I ever want to see their sensational headlines, even as they burn away into bright light and brief heat and then ashes, as I stab them underneath the wood fire behind the lower door of my Chubby Coal Stove (on it's way to warming my house all through the night: cheaply, safely, and cleanly)
