Still searching for Politico's "land mines"

January 14, 2009 1:03 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

You remember, the ones Politico breathlessly announced were awaiting Sen. Hillary Clinton at her SOS confirmation hearing.

Turns out, not so much.

FYI, Howie Kurtz at the WaPo didn't like Clinton's confirmation hearing--too "dull." He especially didn't like her "monotone" voice. (If somebody can recall Kurtz commenting on a male cabinet member's voice during a confirmation hearing, please send a link. Thanks.) It was disappointingly "dull" because of course, confirming the incoming Secretary of State is supposed to be all about providing entertainment for the Beltway press corps, right?

JERKS LIKE KURTZ are just doing it all wrong, if what they want to get out of these confirmation hearings is entertainment.

U.S. Secretary of State Clinton was not chosen for that Office (or the Office of U.S. Senator) for the tonal qualities of her voice, and so we should not be too disappointed if she doesn't sing like a bird.

If that jerk kurtz was looking for musical entertainment when he dialed up the confirmation hearings, then he should have done what I did: you que up Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" just before the hearing begins, and then you start playing it right at the synchronized moment that the hearing is gavelled into session: and then you mute the hearings on the television, and just watch the pictures to the sounds of Floyd's Breathe and Time and Money...

...and right about the time that the ranking member gets his turn to question the nominee, it coincided with "Us And Them"...

It's pretty cool dude, like wow.

Of course, you can't hear a word of what the nominee says by watching the hearings that way, but to jerks like kurtz who cares anyway: what's it got to do with the words a person speaks, when it's all about the tonal qualities of their voice, right?

Redundancy alert: Politico making political theatre and drumming up phony drama for click-throughs. No surprise here.
