New York Post forgets to source its story

January 23, 2009 9:51 am ET by Eric Boehlert

Big shock, we know. But it's almost comical to read this headline "DAVE PICKS GILLIBRAND AS LIBERAL DEMS HOWL," and then read the Fredric Dicker article and realize the right-wing Post provided no facts, quotes, or hard evidence to back up its reporting about how liberal Democrats supposedly feel.

Must be nice to practice journalism at a newspaper that requires very little actual journalism.

That is because they just covet the attention Drudge gives them. They'll worry about any consequences (which there never are) later. And, of course, Drudge linked to this as if it were "news" today.

From that NYPost story: "Sources said "at least five" members of the state's Democratic congressional delegation called Paterson to protest the possibility of Gillibrand's selection. One, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of Nassau County, even threatened a primary challenge."

Here's the problem. This would be evidence that a liberal is "howling" at Kirsten's selection, but McCarthy's opinion and threat was BEFORE the selection. The NY Post headline makes you believe you're going to get post-selection reactions from liberal congress members who didn't get Hillary's seat. There is none of that in this article. I'm sure McCarthy has the same feelings now that Kirsten's appointment is official as she had before and the Post could've easily called her for quotes and opinions, but they didn't do that, for whatever reason (perhaps poor journalism skills, like Eric said).
