Bipartisanship!

February 20, 2009 6:41 pm ET by Jamison Foser

How long before some reporter points to this as evidence of insufficient bipartisanship on Barack Obama's part?

New York Republican Rep. John McHugh, the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, has turned down Barack Obama's invite to Monday's fiscal responsibility summit, his office tells my colleague Alex Isenstadt.

The New York congressman emerged as a tough critic of the economic stimulus package passed by Congress last week.

I'm sure that we'll see this as another "case" of how Obama's bi partisanship has failed, or something to that effect. When someone who was a loud, and large critic of the stimulus package, gets invited by the opposition President to come, and discuss fiscal responsibility, well, I don't think he gets to complain about it.

Obama once again, reaches out, offers a spot at the table to the republicans, and gets his hand slapped for it.

The Congressman has other commitments? BS I say. You move your schedule around when the President of the United States wants to sit down WITH you, and discuss fiscal issues, of which our country is facing many of them now.

Some are of the opinion that his oppenning moves towards republicans are of no use. They'll continue to snap at his hand, and really try to tear off a piece of him. If his policies achieve observable relief. The gap between neocon thought and reality will become visible to more of the population.

Its possible that by continueing to ask the GOPL for its input, rational Ideas may come from it. This would be an openning in the stranglehold that the neocons currently have on the republican party. A quixotic dream to some. For me two rational poitical parties is not a thing to be sneezed at.
