Andrew Malcolm is bored, too

Los Angeles Times blogger/former Laura Bush press secretary wasn't impressed by President Obama last night. Surprise, surprise.
Tuesday morning The Ticket examined the White House's current political strategy and asked the question who would show up at Barack Obama's second nationally-televised news conference that evening: the president or the senator?
The answer: Neither.
Professor Barack Obama showed up.
And if you remember one of those required college lecture courses in the large auditorium at 8:10 a.m. listening to a droning don, and how it felt, slumped in the cushy seats having skipped breakfast for an extra 13 minutes of ZZZZ.

this news conference seemed anticlimatic. (See video below.) At times the president appeared to be mailing in his delivery.

The result for anyone who stayed for the entire presentation was another lengthy, somber less-than-animated sales pitch for the need to spend trillions to jump-start the economy...
Now, I don't want Andrew Malcolm to be bored. That's a less-than-ideal way to go through your workday.
So here's a suggestion, Mr. Malcolm: Quit. Do it now. Hand in your press pass. There are plenty of out-of-work and soon-to-be-out-of-work-reporters who actually give a damn and who won't have any trouble staying awake for a presidential press conference and who are capable of producing a substantive article that will actually help readers understand what is happening in the world, instead of simply whining that they are insufficiently stimulated. Let one of them have your job. Take up skydiving or running with the bulls or whatever it takes to get you sufficiently excited, and let serious people do your serious job.

Village boredom with authentic answers to real problems is, sadly, all we can expect.
See....the Village needs anti-boredom stuff....like militia-man Chuck Norris, the 'all things to all people', Joe the Plumber, and "real Americans" from "real America" Palin talk.
Stuff like that keeps the Villagers from, you know, nodding off.
This kind of idiotic critique of the man's personal bearing, which of course completely ignores what he says, in favor of how he says it... it sometimes makes me think the intent is to make the man self-conscious, and to knock him off his affable charm (which is one of the things that endears him to us).
I believe it was maybe what was behind the "punch drunk" thing, and I have always believed it was certainly behind the "cackle" crap that they threw Mrs. Clinton's way.
If they the media hacks find they are not being taken seriously enough by President Obama (and Mrs. Clinton too), and even worse, if they think they are being laughed at (as both the President and Mrs. Clinton perhaps did), then they the media hacks get small-mindedly all pizzy, and become vindictive and acid-tongued ("cackled" and "punch drunk" are good examples of that), and they the media hacks bend themselves to the task of making the other at least serious in the matter, if not self-conscious.
But I say screw them, and just laugh some more, louder and right in their anguished and stung faces: because who the freak do they the media hacks think they are, someone important and worthy of respect?
That in itself is just more cause to laugh at them. And that's exactly what to do: laugh, and laugh more and laugh louder...
And the whole while you're laughing, you look right into their anguished little small-minded faces, and you enjoy how their own acid burns them so from the inside, as you (truly!) watch them shrink in stature, and (truly!) watch them burn and turn vindictive...
Laugh right at them, because who the freak do these media hacks think they are, respectful and worthy people?

So, it is fully endorsed by the wurlitzer.
Well, his colleague, Peter Wallsten totally panned the press conference in an 'analysis' for the Chicago Tribune/LA Times.
Concluding that there were “no memorable moments” and that Obama was ‘less at ease’, he then included this extremely revealing comment:
So in this guy’s world view, you have the NYT, WSJ and the LA Times (i.e. ‘mainstream Americans’) in one corner while in the other you have the ‘niche audiences’ consisting apparently of latinos, blacks and the American Armed Forces.
Sounds like Col. McCormick came back and wrote this himself!
Obama is not a clown. He is not here to amuse you. He is not here to make you laugh.
If we had wanted a clown, we would have repealed the 22nd Amendment and given Bush a third term.
