Does the Wash. Times' Joseph Curl have an editor?

May 01, 2009 9:38 am ET by Media Matters staff

Reporting on Maersk Alabama Captain Richard Phillips’ appearance at an April 30 hearing presided over by Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman John Kerry (D-MA) , The Washington Times’ Joseph Curl wrote:

But on Thursday, the captain was among comrades - Mr. Kerry is an old Navy man, as is ranking committee Republican, Sen. Richard G. Lugar, who served from 1956 to 1960. Mr. Kerry, who captained a Swift boat in Vietnam during the war, clearly enjoyed a taste of the seaman.

Update: The Washington Times has changed the text so it now reads: "But on Thursday, the captain was among comrades -- Mr. Kerry is an old Navy man, as is ranking committee Republican, Sen. Richard G. Lugar, who served from 1956 to 1960. Mr. Kerry, who captained a Swift boat in Vietnam during the war, clearly enjoyed talking to a fellow seafarer."

Looks like he meant that EXACTLY as it sounds.  Get out of the news biz, freak.

Unbelievable.  Well... this is the same philosphical lot that called themselver "teabaggers" and what they were doing "teabagging."

Wait, are we thinking that was an accident?  I thought they were intentionally trying to plant the suggestion that Kerry's gay.

As one of my favorite quotes from The Simpsons once said:

"Arrghhh... I always said women and seamen don't mix."

Weak.  This only works as the identification of a slight if you have a presumption of guilt.  Now if this writer has a history of the kind of humor you suggest, I'll change my mind.

Umm.... there is that link I posted that suggests he meant what he wrote in sexual terms.

They didn't accuse him of doing it intentionally. You can believe he's either a partisan hack with zero sense of propriety or a complete moron.

        They report, you decide.

This remark is nothing more than childish middle school humor at its worse. Apparently, this Rebublican rag reporter  still seems to think he can continue to win supporters by using infantile inuendo against Senator Kerry. Mr. Curl's editor needs to inform him that 2004 is long over and that Senator Kerry has moved on and it remains a fact that he was the grown up and the better choice in 2004. Hey, it will not work targeting Senator Kerry to distract from the poor job and mess Pres. Bush left us all with. That's a fact.
