Newsbusters praises FOX segment that doctored Gore's comments

May 04, 2009 2:00 pm ET by Jamison Foser

Just in case there is anyone out there who still doesn't realize that the Media Research Center is a bunch of lying hacks, a post on the organization's "Newsbusters" blog should remove any doubt ...

Remember that FOX segment Friday night in which O'Reilly Factor guest host Laura Ingraham used doctored video to smear Al Gore? Media Matters exposed Igraham's dishonest attack later Friday night.

Yesterday afternoon, Newsbusters associate editor Noel Sheppard praised the segment for "Expos[ing] Gore's Global Warming Profit Motive." Sheppard ignored the fact that Igraham did so by doctoring video of Gore's congressional testimony.

Some days, I think MRC picked the perfect name for its blog. "Newsbusters" doesn't sound like a name for people who want journalism to be better, it sounds like a name people who want journalism to go away would choose.

That is what they have resorted to at these places. Photoshop and spliced video. Real nice.

Gore donates ALL of the profit to a global warming research NON PROFIT org!!

This one is ALMOST as disengenuous as my personal favorite Fox News bogus clip from last week where they claimed that Obama said he was in favor of a European-style healthcare system when he actually was just reading a question from the audience and then said he was NOT in favor of it!!

Media Matters for America is claiming that Fox News edited the video clip of Gore's Congressional testimony during a May 1 segment “to remove his statements that he donates the money he makes from his climate-related work to a non-profit organization.” The O'Reilly Factor segment featured Climate Depot's executive editor and chief correspondent Marc Morano. (See: The O'Reilly Factor features Climate Depot on Gore's path to become the first 'Carbon Billionaire' )

But Fox News did air the clip earlier in the program of Gore claiming that "every penny" he earns goes to his non-profit.

See this video clip of The O'Reilly Factor's May 1, 2009 show introduction featuring Gore making the "every penny" statement.

(Gore clip begins at 30 sec. mark)

In addition, as one report on Gore's finances noted: “So what if [Gore's] giving all his money to the [non-profit] Alliance for Climate Protection. He's the chair! He gets a tax write-off for donating that money, and then directs where the money goes.”

A tax write off is his motivation? You do realize how silly that sounds. No? Think of it this way: imagine Halliburton donating all its profits to a charity because the money is tainted with American and Iraqi blood. Well, you'd have to imagine it, because that'll never happen.

Reading NewsBusters---and particularly Sheppard's global warming commentary---is like sitting in at a cult meeting. And the sad thing is Sheppard seems to pride himself on his research skills. As someone who has a background in real research, I'm appalled by his eagerness to pull up anything that seems to support his case while ignoring, denying, or hiding the rest. The question he should---but probably never will---ask himself is why defense of his preferred beliefs requires him to perform such factual somersaults. He wouldn't like the obvious answer.

      Take Note:

First, the quote from Gore that he has given every penny he's
made in the past toward awareness is mentioned in the intro
      to The O'Reilly Factor.
If Fox was trying to hide this, they did a bad job.

Gore's financial investments make him very biased on this issue and he clearly had no business testifying. Blackburn was correct to call him out on it.

Finally, it was shameful to see Al Gore run away from Lord Christopher Monckton, The Third Visount of Brenchely. Poor Lord Monckton flew all the way from the UK to find out moments after his plane landed that Gore had chickened out. Monckton claims Gore said if Monckton showed up, he wouldn't. Gore hardly acts like a man confident that the science is on his side.

      Sincerely,

        Dash,

The problem with Christopher Monckton is that he has knowingly and admittedly altered critical data in his “work” to support his conclusions. He claims he has altered the climate data because some other unnamed “climate alarmist” scientist had previously altered it to support the conclusion that the planet is warming. He says he is switching it back and suggests an investigation should be done to determine why and how the data was altered in the first place.

In short, Lord Monckton is so full of crap his eyes are brown. I would suggest that Al Gore knows you can’t have an actual debate with a known liar, as you would necessarily lend credence to his lies and you certainly wouldn’t do so before Congress.
