Feherty apologizes for Pelosi, Reid remarks after pressure from Media Matters
May 11, 2009 6:48 am ET by Media Matters staff
From a May 10 Associated Press article:
CBS Sports golf analyst David Feherty apologized Sunday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for a morbid joke that went bad in a Dallas magazine.
Feherty, one of the most popular golf analysts for his sharp wit and self-deprecating humor, was among five Dallas residents who wrote for "D Magazine" on former President George W. Bush moving to Dallas.
"From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though," Feherty wrote toward the end of his column.
"Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there's a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death."
Feherty, a former Ryder Cup player who grew up in Northern Ireland, has gone to Iraq over Thanksgiving the past two years to visit with U.S. troops, and he created a foundation to help wounded soldiers.
"This passage was a metaphor meant to describe how American troops felt about our 43rd president," Feherty said in a statement. "In retrospect, it was inappropriate and unacceptable, and has clearly insulted Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid, and for that, I apologize. As for our troops, they know I will continue to do as much as I can for them both at home and abroad."

Once again, this reich-wing Anti-American "thinks" he speaks for the troops. He still doesn't get it. Furthermore, this teabagging scum should be apologizing to our troops for aligning them with terrorists by claiming they would enjoying murdering Americans.
Nonetheless, the reich-wing extremist DHS report was absolutely correct. Feherty's murderous hatred towards fellow Americans is proof.
I've read a couple of Feherty's books and have listened to him for years and can say this is just what he said. A bad joke. He apologized (even though he didn't need to ) so let it go. That can't be said for all the left wing jokers who said the most hateful things about Bush.
Because we're literate, and the military in no way feels the way Feherty thinks they do. Do you think saying the troops want to kill Democrats is left-wing misinformation?
Yeah, you're right, left-wingers are always claiming our troops have a desire to murder Democratic politicians.
/end snark
What about all the reich-wing wing jokers who are saying the most hateful things about Obama? Any comment?
Dr. Matt harley has no comment on the fact Feherty also joked about wishing the death penalty for pro-lifers, people opposed to gay marriage and footballl players who danced in the endzone. To ponder this would require him to have to reconsider that Feherty was a true reich-winger.
A 'reich-winger' to Dr. Matt harley is anyone who he disagrees with or who says something bad about a Democrat, even though he's made just as hateful comments about both Pelosi and Reid.
And he wasn't joking.
Keep obsessing over me.
You act upset over a stupid comment by some unknown commentator writing in some unknown periodical. No same outrage over a comedian wishing death to a certain radio host you obsess over, even when the President laughs at the bomb of a joke.
Wonder if you'll demand an apology from Wanda Sykes as well?
Or will you still pretend double standards don't exist for you?
P.S. Didn't she make a funny, I mean, terrible comment about the Drug Addicted leader of the Republican party? How dare she? <whatever>
It's possible, but I don't recall any lefty wishing death upon even the vile Cheney or the other psychopaths. They need lots of therapy and/or prison time. Lots of exposure to the light of day.
Yet, the reich-wing teabaggers are having fake outrage and hissy fit over the Drugbaugh kidneys comments. Just more chest thumping fake outrage from reich-wingers who hate being a gaggle of marginalized teabagging terrorist scum.
But-- it wasn't a joke. It was a serious interjection he was doing there. I anything he was extolling the troops.
This "joke" thing-- why do people buy this explanantion?-- can you guys read? He was going off about this point, he was serious.
Even the ones who hate Democrats should be insulted by that.
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!

However, in this case, I believe that demanding that he be fired is an overreaction.
CBS apologized. Feherty apologized (and it wasn't one of those "if anyone is offended, I'm sorry for that" kind of apologies.
He's a good golf writer. He has a keen wit. He's overcome some personal demons, and this is a first-time transgression. I suggest that we heap scorn upon him for the comment, but ultimately give him a pass, as he's a fine writer.
Typical, however.
Feherty is a fool.
How come FUX News always only has losers on? Like McCain -- he LOST! Get IT?
Cheney: he LOST! Rove: he LOST! Newt: he LOST! Get it? LOo-oo-ZERrrrrzzzz!
Feherty? Loser. fool.
You should have just reported the sports, Feherty.
Does anyone here REALLY think that this apology was a result of "pressure from Media Matters"???
P-U-L-L-E-A-S-E...
Give me a break.
I am now demanding an apology from Media Matters for insinuating that they have such weight and authority. Anyone who has Olbermann running point on the agenda item could not possibly be taken that seriously.
