Sheesh! A guy asks a simple question of a presidential candidate and you guys try to wipe him out. Barrack should have just answered him instead of getting all flustered.
I suppose it would be expecting far, FAR too much for these guys to explain "Erm, just what exactly was the message of the 'Teabagger Parties' supposed to be???? What exactly was the, um, point of those parties????"
The purpose of the tea parties were to protest out of control government spending. The earliest ones were an attempt to derail the stimulus bill. The tax day ones were primarily about government spending.
I'll go ahead and address a common and valid critisicm of the tea parties. Why didn't they start during the bush administration?
In a form they did. I personnally protested the Iraq war. I wanted to get Osama. Not many on the right were criticising W. at that time. I think the first serious conservative uprising aginst W. was due to his support for immigration reform featuring amnesty for illegal aliens. The last straw for W. was his bailing out of the auto industry. There is a pretty solid conservative concensus that GM and Chrysler would be much better off now if they had just gone into bankruptcy then instead of taking bailout money.
In that way, conservative opposition to big government spending has been building for quite some time. It just took us a while to organize and name it historically inaccuratly. Although high taxes may soon be a big part of it.
Can you not read? I said we conservatives were protesting government during the bush years. I don't care which idiot is in charge. I want the government returned to its constitutional restraints. I did not approve of W.'s policies. And I don't approve of Obama continuing and expanding the worst of what bush did. I said tea party criticism was valid because our opposition was just starting during bush's second term. The opposition to big government naturally got louder this year because Obama has not only out-spent W., but every other administration in our history put together. These tea-parties are going to continue as long as government keeps expanding its' power. And I'm willing to bet that at some point in the future, if things continue as they are now, that you will join us.
The "Fox Nation" claims to speak for conservatives, but they wouldn't post my 2 comments. I'll post them here and see what people think.
1) That Tiller's death was only one more late term abortion, and that pro-lifers that mourn for his family are tools who forgot how liberals poked fun at Tony Snow's death. Also if you are against late term abortions, why worry about a family who made millions off them.
2) That conservatives shouldn't whine about the lack of coverage about the tea parties, since they were no more than a picnic in the park. Conservatives should learn from the hippies in the 60's who burned their draft cards and have a protest where they burn 1040 tax forms, or do like Rev. Sharpton and Rev Jackson and have a tea party in the middle of a major freeway during rush hour or chain themselves to (or block the enterances of) places like the IRS or ACORN.
I'm a conservative person and am embarrassed by the weakness of the so called protest of the tea parties. I think it is kind of cowardly to promote a "protest" and censor those of us that have opinions about that. I did not advocate violence in any way. I just believe that if you truly believe in a cause, you do like Ghandi and Martin Luther King, and use nonviolent civil disobedience.
The Fox Nation is just a stupid waste of time for conservatives and libertarians who want to be heard.
I did not go to the tea party because, just as I knew it would be, some right of center celebs making speaches and a crowd going "yea".
We don't need refreshing and informative. I already know what I'm upset about. Republicans and Democrats being no different, both are for big government. Even Ronald Reagan, who tried to keep taxes in check, allowed government to grow.
I am willing to go to any protest to protect my civil liberties, which are becoming less and less every day, but I don't see it to be a time to "party" as I lose my freedom.
George W. Bush spent more money than his dad and Clinton combined (that's not counting Iraq and Afganstan), now those same people gripe about Obama's spending?
Let's all be honest and admit all this spending is wrong regardless of who spends it. All we are doing is stealing our kid's future for our own selfish needs.
The tea party I went to had local businessmen as speakers. The best ne was a guy who escaped from East Germany eho now runs a business here. Very enlightening. I was refreshed because 1. I've never heard of conservatives organizing a protest and 2. I thought I was afraid I was in a smaller minority than I tuned out to be.
All of my posts on this subject stress the fact that W. started this round of massive government spending that smacked of facism. Don't forget Reagan was quite the big spender as well. Any how, Your last paragraph is spot on. Conservatism '10 &'12!
You really should try a tea-party. The name may be a little historically inaccurate but the message is good.
I apologize for missing your reagan comment the first time. You are absolutely right. I always like to get this dig in as well: Obama has spent more tax payer money already than every president before him combined.

Simple. Because they're really not protesting government spending - they're protesting President Obama.
