L.A. Times' McGough uses Sotomayor injury to revive "wise Latina" comments

June 09, 2009 7:39 am ET by Media Matters staff

From McGough's June 8 blog post:

I don't know if Sotomayor will be able to sue New York's LaGuardia Airport, where she stumbled. The real consolation for the judge is that this experience increases her empathy quotient. It's debatable, however, whether she should tell the Senate that "I would hope that a wise Latina woman who has had to schlep around on crutches would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who can run down the stairs of the Capitol."

When will these idiots learn that in 2009 people are so turned off by this stupid non sense. If Sara Palin broke her ankle and showed up the same day to meet with Senators as scheduled they would be calling her Zena or something like that. I think it says alot about Sotomayor that despite her mishap in NY she went ahead as planned for meetings with Senators. No, I won't try to be cute like the douches at the LAT and make a snide remark how it relates to her judicial philosophy.

I know people who need wheelchairs to get around, and you know what? If Sotomayor were to say that, SHE WOULD BE CORRECT.

Is the US Supreme Court building accessible? Those steps look like a barrier.
