We must be doing something right...

June 24, 2009 12:39 pm ET by Karl Frisch

This morning David Brock, founder and CEO of Media Matters, sent an email to supporters that said in part:

"Scum-sucking vermin"... "Insane"... "Brownshirts"... "Swine"... "Little nerdlings"... "Guttersnipes"... "Little Nazi block-watchers..."

That's just a sampling of what Media Matters for America has been called by right-wing media figures over the past five years.

[…]

Watch a video our online team put together chronicling the relentless attacks against us, then show your direct support by making a small donation of $25, and you will receive our new fifth anniversary limited-edition t-shirt featuring some of these outlandish attacks on Media Matters. Let's continue teaching them that the truth hurts for another five years.

[…]

I founded Media Matters in 2004 because, at the time, there was no organization devoted to monitoring and correcting conservative misinformation and propaganda in the media in real time, and because there was no group dedicated to fighting back against the efforts of hate-mongers to twist journalism to their ends. And in spite of the attacks against us, Media Matters has been able to sharpen and increase its influence on the media every year. Given the reactions we've seen from the conservative echo chamber, it's clear we are having an impact. Help us continue our fight today so that we can hold them accountable tomorrow.

Check out the new video, then go make a $25 donation and get yourself a limited edition fifth anniversary Media Matters t-shirt.

I will proudly wear my MMfA T-Shirt.

The more publicity this site gets, the better.

The more light we shine upon the likes of Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, FoxNews, etc, the better for our nation and the worse for those offenders.

I agree. Great clip. I am so glad that these creeps are so worked up at the fact that someone is watching them and showing everyone what hypocrites and liars they are. Great work Media Matters of America.

"Scum-sucking vermin"... "Insane"... "Brownshirts"... "Swine"... "Little nerdlings"... "Guttersnipes"... "Little Nazi block-watchers..."

I will be putting this on my resume. F U Faux News!

Yup me too...about a year after he took office the first time! lost my job of 23 years because of the Bush Recession..I'm now making less than half of what I was making at my old job. Being 53 and working my way up through that company from receptionist to management, without a college degree,it's nearly impossible to find another job in management, apparently experience counts for nothing, plus I have my age working against me. I hope Media Matters blows these idiot "reporters", "commentators", (and i use the term loosely) right out of the water. People like Dobbs, Limbaugh and all their right wing cronies need to learn to play nice, I'm interested in hearing the news, not these idiots ideas of what the news is. They call Media Matters un-American? Well I think "hoping that Barack Obama fails" is pretty damned un-American! "Gestapo"? OMG...where do these people get off? We need an agency that is trying to keep these people honest, god knows they aren't capable of being honest.

Was that a threat by O'Reilly towards the end of the clip? Something about a cake?

It's obvious that your site is having an effect, judging by these snippets. All of there verbal jabs remind me of that junior high phrase, "You smelt it, you dealt it".

      Well done.

It always makes me laugh when the Weiner, Rush, Hannity and O'Reilly accuse MMFA of "taking things out of context" when the context is provided. I'm getting out my checkbook right now, Weiner Boy!

I for one am quite proud of the smear campaigns that MMfA does (special kudos to Mr. Frisch) to all the right-wing thugs, conservative mouth pieces, and dirty media whores by simply posting their very words in full context!

With smear campaigns like that... no wonder you guys are being mentioned all the time by those that lie, distort, and BS.

      Keep it up people!

Oh... and I'm going to donate $25 to help out the cause... plus... I could use a new t-shirt (which will be a nice addition with my Move-On t-shirt)

You guys need to stop, I tell you! Stop it now!

Those people on the right can't stand the TRUTH because it's bad for their health (as well as their pocketbook).

      You've just gone too far.

oh, god for bid there are people watching everything you conservatives do. this is a hilarious collage of complaining, though. what is their problem? i thought these conservatives were okay, if not encouraging, with people who disagree with them, yet they cant have someone calling them out on their lies? i thought bill oreilly was all about exposing the truth, yet he cant have anybody showing the truth about him simply from using his own words. there is probably no point in making this argument, however, as it has been made many times. i guess the more they complain, the more MMfA looks like rockstars. and i love how they claim they take them out of context, yet cant point to even ONE single instance where they have done such a thing. shows how much credibility they've got.

Still not one valid example of MMFA lying or taking anything out of context. Sure, the wingnuts included in the clip, and dittohead posters here, try in vain to convince themselves that anti-propaganda is the propaganda, but I don't think they're even convincing them selves most of the time.

Just to get a head start, who's taking bets on the next big story-- Obama eating ice cream, or inviting Iranians to his 4th of July party?

You know, there's two things Republicans have shown utter hatred for that I'll never understand: Media Matters and Al Franken. What's the deal? Neither engage in deceitful tactics and simply use a combination of solid logic with a rigorous fact-checking process in order to make points. They may not always be entirely amiable to conservatives, but they're honest and have never once truly "smeared" anybody to my knowledge. I hope some dumbass conservative doesn't try to "educate" me about how Al Franken wrote a book called "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big, Fat Idiot" either, because that would just prove that they never read the book.

Franken is an unapologetic liberal. He's a adept defender of liberal values and uses the power of humor to increase his impact. The cons hate that. They want all their liberals to be stereotypes of 60's hippies with pie-in-the-sky ideas and no like to the practical world. It's the same with Michael Moore. He's in your face and not passive. The more Moores and Frankens there are in our ranks, the harder it will be for the cons to sell their stereotypes to a generation trained to be fearful of the word liberal.
