UPDATED: Because Politico is really just a GOP bulletin board

June 24, 2009 4:00 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

You can't make this stuff up.

Today's Politico headline:

A Republican comeback?

From last week's New York Times/CBS News poll:

While Republicans have steadily increased their criticism of Mr. Obama, particularly on the budget deficit, the poll found that the Republican Party is viewed favorably by only 28 percent of those polled, the lowest rating ever in a New York Times/CBS News poll. In contrast, 57 percent said that they had a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

From this week's Washington Post/ABC News poll:

The state of the Republican Party remains grim. Just 22 percent of those surveyed identified themselves as Republicans, near April's decades-long low point. Thirty-six percent said they have a favorable impression of the GOP, and 56 percent said they have an unfavorable impression. (Fifty-three percent said they have a favorable view of the Democratic Party.)

Yep, the GOP has Dems right where they want them.

Once again, what I call question journalism.

Virtually anything written that ends in a question is a lazy journalist.

If you don't know the answer to the "question"; it's not NEWS

Maybe Politico should just be honest with their headlines...

I Sure Wish the Republicans Would Make a Comeback

As they were filter-dripping the news on Morning Joe today, they went on and on about this. I thought they were being 'sarcastic' again, but when your whole lawn is dead, I guess all you can do is root for the weeds.

Well, the Cons got some good news today with Mark Sanford...

At least he's not a pedophile. So, some in the GOP are calling this a victory, and maybe a first indication of GOP comeback.

Good point. Also, I understand Sanford's lover is named Maria and that hopeful GOP insiders are seeing this as an opportunity to rebuild ties with the latina community after the Sotomayer debacle.

What is REALLY funny is that Politico moved this "story" from their top-line to the top story right below a top-line photo of Gov Sanford admitting his affair and lying about it.

Yup, things the GOP is on a roll!

In other headlines, this is great news for John McCain.
