Better conservative media critics, please

June 30, 2009 10:56 am ET by Jamison Foser

Newsbusters' Kyle Drennen:

In addition to wondering about the fate of the party nationally, Schieffer also asked about Sanford's political future: "Should he also resign as the governor of South Carolina?...This seems to go beyond just the fact that, you know, he became involved in this relationship. He was basically missing in action for five days... Isn't this more than just a sex scandal here? I mean, this is dereliction of duty, isn't it?"

It's interesting that Schieffer never leveled such a charge against Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Uh ... maybe that's because Clinton never skipped town, ditching his security detail and lying to aides about where he was going and leaving the Vice President unable to reach him and the nation essentially without a president for five days?

Seriously, Drennen is complaining - sorry; he finds it "interesting" -- that Schieffer never accused Clinton of being "missing in action for five days"? No, it isn't "interesting." Shieffer never accused Clinton of being "missing in action for five days" because Clinton was never missing in action for five days.

What is wrong with these people?

I find it interesting that a special prosecutor hasn't been appointed with a multi-million budget to investigate Sanford's adultery. But then again, I find all kinds of things interesting...

      Drennen,
What about Sean Hannity saying the same thing as Schieffer? How can you claim liberal bias when a water carrier like Hannity is saying he ought to resign? Doesn't that sort of make your whole point invalid about Schieffer since it is the same as Hannity's? Also, who cares what Schieffer had to say about Clinton? Did his opinion have an effect ON HIS IMPEACHMENT TRIAL? I love how people act like Clinton go off scott free. In what world do these forlks live?

Did Hannity really say that? Wow. I'm surprised he can be that principled, evern for just a few minutes.

Maybe he was confused by his own network referring to him as "Sanford-D"?

Hannity told Sen. Demint that due to the personal issues Sanford is dealing with he ought to resign. He said he needs to fix his life and not worry about being governor.

Wow. I'm seriuously impressed. I notice that he was considerably mroe considerate than he's been towards dem's in the same position, but still... I would not have expected that of him.

I was surprised as well. He was much more direct in his opinion while Demint was kind of being politically correct. Still looking for a transcript to make sure I heard it right.

      · seeryer: Actually, to make a fine point, President Clinton did get off "Scot Free." Under the laws of Scotland there is guilty, innocent and "not proven."

"Not proven,” means, "We think you did it. But it was a one-time thing. So, don't go out and do it again and we'll let it slide this time."

And that is pretty much what President Clinton got. He got off "Scot Free."

Finally, don't look for anybody on NewsBusters to use facts, logic or common sense. NewsBusters is a self-fulfilling daisy chain designed to make people who can't handle reality comfortable by reinforcing their misconceptions, astonishing inability to analyze facts and events, and twisted world-view.

Reality has a liberal bias. So the right wingnutz crave the constant flow of conservative radio and website pabulum for sustenance.

I knew when I used that phrase someone would fill me in. I couldn't remember if it was "scotch free" or "scott free". It was neither, thanks for lesson, I had no idea of the origin of that phrase:-)
