Rupert Murdoch pays big bucks to settle hacking lawsuits

According to a report in The Guardian, Rupert Murdoch – chairman of News Corp, the parent company of Fox News – has "paid out more than £1m (about $1.6 million) to settle legal cases that threatened to reveal evidence of his journalists' repeated involvement in the use of criminal methods to get stories."

Fair and balanced (and illegally obtained?)

Romenesko summarized the sordid story:

...Rupert Murdoch's British newspaper subsidiary paid about $1.6 million to settle court cases involving allegations that its reporters worked with private investigators to hack into numerous public figures' cellphones. Murdoch tells Bloomberg News that's news to him. "If that had happened, I would know about it."

  right, of course rupert denies being involved in such a criminal scheme. but knowing the reputation of the "journalists" that are in his employ...it isn't beyond the realm of possibility this has happened.

  Business policy and tactics come from the CEO. He sets the pace and attitude toward the goals of the company. Murdoch should have to relinquish all assets in every company he owns and placed on an island to live alone because with the human race he does not work toward our best interest or values.

  There will be no outrage from the lemmings because they'll never know it happened. FOX won't report it. Murdoch will see to that! Reilly and Hannity, Hume and Beck....they'll never mention it. Let's hope that Olbermann, Maddow, and Schultz do.
