Why won't GOP pundits leave Sarah Palin aloooone!

July 10, 2009 11:04 am ET by Eric Boehlert

As previously noted, the harshest critiques of Palin's "No Más" moment continue to be launched from Republican circles, an intramural development which only weakens the rallying cry that liberal journalists are the ones unfairly attacking Palin. (In fact, many are glorifying her.)

The latest rhetorical thrashing comes courtesy of GOP strategist and talking head Mike Murphy [emphasis added]:

Gov. Sarah Palin is the political train wreck that keeps on giving. First, she was an awful choice last year as John McCain's running mate. I came to this conclusion with regret - I am one of McCain's biggest admirers.

It gets worse, trust me.

UPDATED: The WSJ's Peggy Noonan joins the GOP pile-on:

She was not thoughtful. She was a gifted retail politician who displayed the disadvantages of being born into a point of view (in her case a form of conservatism; elsewhere and in other circumstances, it could have been a form of liberalism) and swallowing it whole: She never learned how the other sides think, or why...In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything

It gets worse, trust me.

UPDATED: These people are merciless! From John Hinderaker at the far-right site Power Line:

The biggest problem with her press conference was that her stated reasons for resigning her office didn't make much sense...I still think Palin's resignation was a mistake; it will make the logistics of campaigning much easier, but her failure to complete the only major government job to which she has been elected will haunt her.

UPDATED: In case you missed it, GOP talking head Ed Rollins called Palin's resignation performance a "disaster," "insulting," and "incoherent."

      Pullin' a Palin

      1. Quitting when the going gets tough; abandoning the responsibility entrusted to you by your neighbors for book advances and to make money on the lecture circuit.

      2. Bizarre move that will damn ambitions for higher office.

I bet when people saw Jade they were convinced that David Caruso was pullin' a Palin.

Gibson: "Do you agree with the Bush Doctrine?"

      Palin: "In what respect, Charlie?"

Gibson: "Well... what do you interpret it to be?"

      Palin: "His world view"
      Ya think, Noonan? You betcha!

True but if she had to stand up on her own a competative debate she would crash and burn pretty quickly. No amount of cramming is going to help her with that. Although her real forte seems to be whining in the media about how unfair everyone is to her and if the MSM lets her get away with that she may sway some voters. Doubtful though.

That sounds logical, but I just remember her performance against Biden. Even though she did nothing more than recite talking points, I seem to remember a lot of "pundits" claiming she mopped the floor with Biden.

Rush Limbaugh has proven over and over that his audience does not hear what they really hear, but what he tells them to hear. He can play a clip of someone speaking, then immediately lie about what his audience just heard... and he's never challenged on it by his callers.

I think the same would be true of Palin in a Presidential campaign. The GOP base would think she's wonderful, because the Troglodyte Propaganda Machine would tell them so.

That's what I said about GWB when he was running for governor and president. Look how many people voted for that incompetent phony. Never say never.

But she's so adorable...<wink, wink> and sassy. She's a regular maverick! And she's just like us...!

MEO TO SELF: Place bullet in temple if Saeah Palin is ever elected to national office. ;>)
