Will Morning Joe press Liz Cheney on conversations with her father?

July 13, 2009 12:08 pm ET by Jamison Foser

MSNBC's Morning Joe will apparently host Liz Cheney tomorrow to talk about CIA practices and policies during the Bush administration.

Over the past few months, there has been some complaining that Liz Cheney keeps popping up on television and in print to opine about various topics. I actually don't have a problem with that, in the abstract. She did have a pretty good gig in the State Department during her father's Bush's administration, which gives her better credentials than a lot of the "experts" and "analysts" television - and cable news in particular - tends to turn to.  Unfortunately, she uses her television appearances to make outrageously partisan and inaccurate claims, often without being challenged by her hosts.

And if Liz Cheney is going to appear on television to defend Dick Cheney's actions - including his reported role in blocking Congressional notification of CIA activities -- she should face some tough questioning. What has her father told her? Has he disclosed classified information to her? What has he told her about recent reports that he ordered the CIA not to tell Congress about a secret and possibly-illegal program?

Dick Cheney has been notoriously secretive with Congress and the public; there isn't anything viewers could learn from a Liz Cheney television appearance that is more important than whether Dick Cheney has been more forthcoming to people -- like Liz Cheney -- who have no legislative or oversight role, and if so, what he has told them.  Morning Joe can find any number of right-wing guests who will simply rattle off pro-Cheney, anti-Obama talking points.  The whole point of hosting Liz Cheney should be to question her about things only she can answer.

Liz Cheney's relationship to the former Vice President helps get her these TV appearances, which she uses to defend him, but she also seems to benefit from an apparent unwillingness by reporters to ask her about conversations between father and daughter. Reporters shouldn't let her have it both ways.

Considering that just this morning he was calling Nancy Pelosi a friend and saying that the CIA is now bad mmmkay after leading the charge against her just a month ago...I would say don't hold your breath.

I don't understand why these people get airtime. They are like a broken record. GOP good...Democrats bad. Why put them on when they have NOTHING else to say.

What an interesting idea! The child answering for the parent! I have been very annoyed to see the previously tight-lipped, and cagey Mr. Cheney come out of the shadows to be a regular gadfly of negativity. Frankly, the man has always struck me as the definition of evil and he gives me the willies. I am not sure will ever be able to pry out the proper facts of what he knew and did, and his current chattiness is obfuscation, not enlightenment.

All Cheney has been doing for the past few months has been verbally masturbating himself in public.....

He is a liar. A coward. A traitor. ... and those are just his good qualities.

Now he has his daughter doing "IT" in public with him and for him.

That adds geometrically to the universally large "ewwww" factor surrounding him....

Cheney should have been in prison six years ago... for treason.

Not selling a book dealing and getting his daughter to pimp him....for profit.

No way. Mika will admire Liz Cheney's toughness and intellect about her (Cheney's) father's role in torture, cover-ups, etc. Morning Joe Hosts like Mika and Joe Scarborough will "NEVER" confront Republicans about controversies in the Republican Party, they do this to Democrats "ONLY". LOL

Yeah right. As if Mika found her 'Road to Damascus' while vacationing in the south of France last week. Of course a tough discussion with Liz Cheney would mean Joe grew a brain recently too. Not to say the man is a total idiot. He has figured out how to put on a popular, light weight, fake news/comedy morning show AND get a book deal to write 'serious' political analysis. All of this with little or no disciplined study of major issues. You got to give him some props...
