MSNBC's bizarre social norms: Sex bad, murder funny

July 14, 2009 10:23 am ET by Jamison Foser

Earlier today, Eric noted that blogger Marcy Wheeler caused a bit of a stir yesterday by using the phrase "blow job" on MSNBC, in the context of pointing out that conservatives eagerly investigated Bill Clinton's sex life, but don't want to investigate various infinitely more serious Bush/Cheney administration misdeeds.

As Eric noted, MSNBC hosts David Shuster and Tamron Hall "quickly apologized on behalf of Wheeler, stressing she didn't mean to say that phrase on daytime TV."

Here's something else that happened on MSNBC yesterday: On Morning Joe, Pat Buchanan (an MSNBC employee, not a blogger guest) said that Todd Palin should drown Levi Johnston to death in a stream. I didn't see any MSNBC anchor apologize for Buchanan's statement that a teenager should be put to death. In fact, Shuster and Hall played the clip during their show, laughing all the while.

Then, on Hardball, Buchanan said it again.

So, let's review: saying the phrase "blow job" on a cable channel that spent a year covering a blow job: Poor form. Repeatedly advocating the brutal murder of a teenager: Funny!

Glad we got that straight.

Yesterday I said in the context of watching this on MOrning Joe that Buchanan said it in jest. I will now stand corrected. The fact that he said it again on Hardball is pathetic. This is a man so warped in his ultra conservatism and lust for a bimbo he is getting so senile he brings nothing to the table and should go. MSNBC needs to cut him loose ans sned him to Fox where he belongs.

This article makes me wonder if Ann Coulter ever got a BJ...

(By the way, spelling out "BJ" triggers MMfA's profanity filter, which is kind of funny, seeing how it's the topic of the article. So, is there a double standard? MMfA writers can post it, but those who comment can't?)

      MSNBC may not be perfect.
But they are better than their competition in their affect.
I stay with MSNBC for the truth and for the facts.
I would switch to Fox News if i wanted a Political Hack.

      Speak truth to power.

I do not believe "affect" means what you think it does.

It's not just conservatives that aren't interested in investigating Bush/Cheney. In fact, conservatives have very little to say about that right now. Liberals can make it happen if they want to.
