Wash. Post issues correction regarding reprint of misleading G8 photo

July 19, 2009 1:52 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From The Washington Post:

Correction

Sunday, July 19, 2009

The caption to a photograph on the July 18 Free for All page said that President Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were getting in place to be photographed, with a woman to the left. It should have made clear that, according to videotapes of the event, Mr. Obama was not looking at the woman, as a letter writer said that it appeared.

Well... I suppose it is possible that MMfA exposing the fraud that picture is and WaPo reprinting it and then issuing a retraction about it may very well be your doing.

I have no problem with your taking credit for the WaPo retraction, but be careful MMfA... as taking credit for something like this (without verifiable proof) will assuredly get some of the trolls to flip over this perceived arrogance on your part.

Where did MMFA take credit for the correction/retraction?

I agree, I think MMFA is merely pointing out that WaPo came to its journalistic senses, if you can ever call them that ever again.

MMFA could reasonably take indirect credit if, in what I think is a likely event, readers were inspired to point out to the WaPo "Hey, y'all effed up!"
Turning up the volume of complaints is indeed a good thing, but its the volume of reader complaints that's critical.

The correction took place after the flagging by MMfA, but there is about the same degree of connection as this:

GREGORY: [Sen.] Ted Kennedy [D-MA], a driving force behind health care legislation -- Senator Kennedy obviously suffering from brain cancer. He's on the cover of Newsweek magazine. He's written an essay.
