Actually, one could say it's a showdown between enlightenment and ignorance. To all you people on the right...you're really gullible buying into health care insurance industry bullsh*t. That industry could not care less about your welfare.
The insurance industry answers to shareholders and executives who are more interested in a return on their investment than providing funds to cover medical expenses. They grow wealthy by -denying- claims.
The government is answerable, at least in theory, to the American people, which should put their priorities on providing the coverage that they collect the taxes for. After all, letting constituents die is no way to get re-elected.
Who would you rather have running -your- health insurance, christian6121485?
ShrinkGov, I submit to you that the government was forced to answer to the American people just this past November. Do you recall that? The conservatives lost, and are now out of power and seeking, rather than to have a legitimate voice in enacting changes the American people clearly want, to obstruct and sabotage the workings of the very country they claim to love.
I'm unsure what definition of 'running' you are using in that last sentence, but surely you are aware that the government, both state and federal, is already regulating your health care. Besides this, health 'care' is not at issue. We are talking about health 'insurance'. You don't want the government regulating your health care? Then you will be going for surgery to a doctor who has not been licensed or required to prove in any way that he is actually qualified to cut people open. Welcome back to the Dark Ages...
The government isn't answerable to the people? Funny, I seem to remember having elections every 2 years at the federal level, along with some local elections and votes that are normally done in the same time frame. Remember, the government represents you. People don't like the job that said person who is representing them is doing, they vote him/her out of office. It really is that simple.
Transparency in this administration is leaps and bounds ahead of where Bush was. Are they ironing out some wrinkles? Yes, for sure, but they are putting their money where their mouth was, and are making available many things to make it more transparent to see what is going on in our name. You do know that they have an entire website that was put up so that folks like you can follow along right? Have you looked at it (doubtful)? Maybe you ought to.
Who do you want running your health care? Someone who cares more about the bottom line of profit? Or someone who is actually accountable to you, the voter? I'll take the latter please.
Oh yes, it's sooooo enlightened to want the government between you and your doctor! But not wanting the government controlling your health care is ignorant. Yes, let's give up our freedom and liberty in the name of enlightenment. Talk about ignorance!!!
I don't buy into the insurance industry "billsh*t" but I'm also not buying into obama's bullcrap. Here's this out of control government, being lead buy obama, pushing another 1,000+ page bill without reading it, without the public knowing what's realy in the bill (obama doesn't know what's in it) so there can't be any real debate. But we have to do it now or the country will implode! Don't ask questions just trust me, I'm obama. BULLCRAP!
ShrinkGov, you -already- have bureaucrats between you and your doctor. They come from your insurance company, and their mandate is to find any pretext at all under which they can deny you coverage so they can keep your money.
This is most emphatically not about freedom and liberty. President Bush already gave all those away so that the terrorists would not hate us anymore, remember? Habeus corpus ringing any bells? How about warrantless wiretapping?
The current system is -broken-, and so we wish, as a nation, to fix it. Feel free to go on paying for private insurance or going without! For the rest of us, however, a public option that reins in costs and provides reasonable coverage at an affordable rate will hopefully force the insurance industry to actually compete.
To refute the argument about public options doing away with private insurance, I will refer to the Social Security Administration. It is, essentially, a public option retirement plan. Has it wiped out private retirement plans, such as pensions and investment options geared toward retirement planning? No.
And the thing is, you can go right on buying your own insurance (you do that right? Yeah, probably not, neither do I, the company I work for buys it for me, and I have to kick in a little) even with these reforms, so don't get all scared and go running under the bed yet.
You'll still have insurance companies between you and your health care just like always. You're not giving up any freedom, because we don't have it now. That, and nobody is talking about the government running health care, another silly talking point.
You have most definitely bought into the insurance industry's BS, because you're spouting it off.
Obama has read the bill. Another stiff talking point of yours.
You can also know what's in the bill, because guess what? You can read it as well. It's out there, use the Google to find it. It's not hard.
Nobody is saying the country is going to implode, but providing health care to everyone is an important subject.

Give me a break!
Who do I want running my health care? CERTAINLY NOT THE GOVERNMENT!
Happy with that?
