Malkin: “Obama’s cronies of color,” including wife, “reach for the race card when their dubious judgment is questioned”

August 01, 2009 4:07 pm ET by MMFA Staff

From Pages 12-13 of conservative columnist Michelle Malkin's new book, Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies (Regnery Publishing, July 2009):

Fortunately, not everyone on the Left remains paralyzed in an irreversible state of Obama inebriation. This book would not have been possible without the contributions of some brave and lonely liberals -- whistleblowers at the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), independent journalists and government watchdogs -- who rejected the excuse-making and white-washing of Obama's culture of corruption. While Obama sycophants in the mainstream media celebrated his "hipness"23 and his "swagga,"24 a few principled progressives finally began to question the cult.

But they are still in the minority. And there will be more predictable excuses. As I document in this book, Obama's cronies of color (beginning with his own wife) reach for the race card when their dubious judgment is questioned. And when all else fails, there's always the "I inherited the problem" alibi.

To which I reply: Read the book. Barack Obama owns this cabinet of tax cheats, crooks, and cronies. It is his and his alone. In the era of "new politics," judge him as you would judge other mere mortals. Judge him not by the company that preceded him.

Judge him by the company he keeps.

Yeah, if we're going to judge people by the company they keep, I don't think Ms. Malkin will like where she comes out on that scale.

Cronies of Color..Mikey, just call him the N-word. I know you want to.
Which colors are his cronies? Looks like a lot of white ones unless white isn't a color.
Mikey are you sure you are not jealous of Michelle Obama.
She is smarter than you, much more attractive than you, is much classier than you and is not as hateful as you. Some people say that you are green with envy. Now you can qualify a few times to be a Cronies of Color..which is much better than a 'Casting Couch Guest' of Hannity. Many suggest that you and Hannity have committed adultery. Can you prove this is a lie? Maybe some of your Cronies of Hatred can bail you out.

Hey yeah; I've already had a lot to say about this idiot today, but I've just readized I've been missing an important point. The "of color" is key here; that's why she doesn't want us judging Obama by this predecessor.

I believe her premise is, Sure, Bush surrounded himself with crooks and cronies. And while he was a particularly bad case, he's far from the first crook- and crony-friendly president we've had. But the thing is, pretty much all of those crooks and cronies were white. And that made it okay.

Only haven't most if not all of the people Obama's had to turn down with tax problems been white? Funny how that detail gets ignored in Malkin's treatment. In short, this is yet another variation on the current "Fear of a Black President" trope.

But Ms. Malkin and Regnery Publishing have no problems with the Bush Administration which practiced even more blatant cronyism (with incompetents as an added bonus) and a required ideology with schooling from Regents or Patrick Henry Law School guaranteed to fetch a fat appointed position! And she is one to talk about playing the race card. She doesn't play it for herself but she sure hates minorities. Being an anchor baby was okay for her, but its a rug she won't lay down for anyone else.

Isn't it hilarious that Malkin specifically scolded her readers: "Judge him not by the company that preceded him." Right, we're all supposed to just close an eye or two to the eight years that came before which she cheerleaded from beginning to end.

Anyone with a record like that needs to work hard for a while to establish credibility. Disagreeing with the "birthers" was a good start, but there's still a long way to go.

I am curious, though, about these alleged whistleblowers from the left. Will they be like "fairliberal" and similar people who claim to have been liberals, but show no evidence that they ever really were? Time will tell.

Well, if you judged him by the company that preceeded him, he comes up smelling like a rose. Afterall, the guy before him was the spoiled punk scion of a lackluster dynasty who dried out and got religion before he was able to get his act together! And who did he choose for important jobs? Texans, Bible thumpers, and his dad's cronies. I don't know who her whistle blowers are, they could be plants, people who went in looking for dirt, or they could be people who got caught being dirty and got dumped or they could be figments of her imagination. I have never read any of her books, so I don't know if she provides any sources. Glennie keeps saying he has a team investigating, but so far, he hasn't produced a source of any kind for his brand of crazy. If her book is anything like her blog or her interviews, then she writes like a High School sophomore with a bad case of PMS, or perhaps I'm being kind?

Yes! I thought the same thing: That was hilarious! It amounts to an admission that "the company that preceded him," which Malkin slobberingly adulated, was actually so very bad that this supposed group of "tax cheats, crooks, and cronies" looks good by comparison.

I guess it's time for another addition to my list of rules of rightwing arguing:

Rule #15: Seize control of the Clock of History. Insist that all events outside the time frame most advantageous to your argument are irrelevant and must not be considered.

Footnote: Dave Neiwert notes how the overall form of the argument - the corrupt president and the wife as behind-the-scenes manipulator - is the same as was wielded against the Clintons. If the GOPpers recycled everything like they recycle claims, the environment would be a heck of a lot cleaner.

It's also pretty d@mn funny that Malkin call's Obama's associates "crooks" when she was quite happy with the collection of miscreants that preceded him, the whole lot of which ought by any rights to be conferring with their defense lawyers at The Hague right about now.

And timely, too, because the GDP figures were just READJUSTED starting 2007 to state that the economy contracted even MORE than initially believed.

Yet, can anyone here recall Bush or McCain acknowledging a recession or even any problem until the actual bank meltdown late in 2008???

So I guess if you go by the statements of Bush W in 2007-2008, then she is right. The problem DID NOT begin until 2009 ...

Well, Ms. Malkin never uses race to make a point. Funny how conservatives keep telling us that we are all Americans and they don't see race but use it more than anyone else. So her book should state "Obama and his American cronies". With Rush it should have been "here you have an American president trying to destroy an American cop". With Beck, "I think the American president has a real problem with American culture".
      Why such hypocrites????

I see that even though Obama has only been in office a little over 6 months now, he has already failed (in Malkin and other folks eyes like say, Hannity), and he has enveloped himself in a so called culture of corruption? What a freakin' joke, considering once again, Obama has only been in office, again, 6 months (plus a couple of weeks). And considering that this book came out recently, she had to have written it probably starting either shortly after Obama was inaugurated, or shortly thereafter, again, kind of starting on his culture of corruption before, or shortly after he took office, which is ridiculous.

Malkin is a hack, always has been, and has always been willing to say whatever is required to gin up controversy with little to no proof of, well, anything.

Anyone want to bet that this book suddenly becomes a "bestseller"? Meaning, I'm sure conservative book clubs snap this up to once again, make the numbers look better than they really are.

But don't forget: Decades must pass before anyone may pass judgement on the Bush Administration.

And even after decades, Phred, the judgement will still be the same. Bush Two will still be the worst president ever.

Right. Bush couldn't possibly been in any way liable for not protecting us from 9/11 since, after all, he hadn't even been in office for 9 months yet. But after only 6 months everything is Obama's fault. I can agree to that if we are willing to give Obama credit for all the successes in Iraq.

True enough, and don't forget, the Bush library has people on staff who are there specifically to spin the whole 8 years of his administration, as in, they're doing PR to rehab his image.

But 6 months into Obama, and he's already failed. I do think "time will tell" with Obama, but it's going to take longer than 6 months to figure out where he stands amongst the Presidents. And as I mentioned above, it's absurd for her to even write this book, because she had to have started it either before, or right after he was sworn in. And what facts did she have on hand? Supposition and theories is all.

Malkin was on c-span's Washington Journal this morning. I had to change the channel. Then, I emailed Washington Journal (Steve was the host today)and let them know that I thought they were being sensationalist and that giving hate mongers like Malkin a platform should not be something that c-span should do.

Do you think that c-span should give Malkin a platform to spew pure hate?

What's really disgusting is that Cspan had Michele Malkin on as a "reputable" guest on Washington Journal July 31, to hawk her book. She stated she is bipartisan and slams the rethugs as much as the democrats. She's a pathetic lying wingnut. I wrote Cspan and let them know what I thought. Here's their email address if you feel like letting them know how you feel about malkin.

Lot's of really good responses on here. One thing I would like to add is how interesting it is that they send out a female minority to attack another female minority. You see, in terms of psychology this will not look as bad as say, an old white guy attacking the first lady. I haven't looked at the book, but I'll bet Malkin had a lot of help from her circle of knee-jerk conservative friends to bring this book on the shelves.
