Fox excuse for pushing viewers only to Democrats' town hall meetings falls flat

August 07, 2009 12:21 pm ET by Jamison Foser

So, Fox is directing people to town hall meetings held by Democratic members of Congress -- and says the reason they aren't letting people know when Republican members are holding town halls is because they don't have the GOP schedule:

Well, I like to help FOX out when I can, so here's a list of town halls that includes Republicans.

So, now Fox doesn't have an excuse for directing disruptive viewers only to Democratic events.

Gee, even I could do better than that:

"We only posted the Democratic Town Halls because they have the majority in congress and feel people need to talk to the reps that can have the most impact on current debates and policies."

That would have been MUCH MUCH MUCH better than that!

(MMFA almost wouldn't have even been able to call them out on it then!)

        (Shush, you!) LOL

Pretty sad, Bilbo, when you can come up with better BS than Fox bothers to . Of course, they're probably pretty aware of their audience, and know very well that they don't need to put too much effort into their excuses.

Don't I know it. For whatever reason (laziness) a lot of people would rather be led, than do their own research and find out what is REALLY going on.

Was it Bart Simpson who said: "It has to be true, I say it on T.V."

I'm glad you corrected that. For Bart Simpson to have said it was true because he said it on tv, well, that would have made him very much like Mussolini or Obama.

I really did laugh at your initial post. It reminded me that, more than once at this site, I've had a wingnut troll direct a comment at me and I've been able to help them out by beefing up their talking point into something harder to refute.

So you're saying the President is similar/comparable to Mussolini?

No, the distinguished H Sanders oft has a tongue-in-cheeky way of speaking. He's making fun of people who use those kind of comparisons to Obama.

Actually, for FOX, it IS "it has to be true, we say it on TV". They're totally self-referential. What they say one day, the very next day is presented as "the media report" or "some people have been saying"...

Even though I cannot stand Fox 'News', I am sure the real problem is that Republican members of congress are not even holding town halls or anything of the sort because Republicans want the status quo. Hey MediaMatters, I love the work but where are the newer clips of Republicans not being called out on their Non-Plan Plan! keep up the good work

I would not rely on that list because it is incomplete. And according to bilbo, you libs don't need a list provided to you by MM because you are all such independant thinkers and do your own research. You'd do much better by going to your congressmans website and looking for dates there. I noticed in Texas there were only listings for 2 congressmen when in fact there are several others who either have already had them or have them scheduled.

Maybe instead you could go to Organizing for America. You can sign up there and they will give you the address of your congressional delegation. Then you can sign up for a specific scheduled time to visit either your Senators or Congressmans office. They want to spread the schedule out so that someone is in their offices all day long during hours of operation. They will even supply you with all the "...information about how the health care crisis affects your state for you to drop off." I'm so excited about this "grassroots" effort. It's so genuine and real. Ya, think we'll hear anything in the media about this? Probably not.

Hmm. You're sarcastic about Barack Obama encouraging individuals making an effort to speak in person to their congressman? That this is somehow the same as shills for the insurance industry organizing dimwitted citizens to shriek at their congressmen and disrupt townhalls?

              Wow.

I'm still confused about the double standard. Why is it that liberals are well informed independant thinkers and conservatives are dimwitted followers who can't think for themselves. I for one seldom if ever listen to Rush, Hannity or Beck and almost never watch FOX news. I doubt I'm the only one who can actually looks into things for myself. I don't understand why no one thinks that any of these people who went to the townhall meeting could have been genuinely passionate about healthcare. Just because they sought help doesn't mean the efforts of the citizens was disengenuous.

To be fair, R&R, their constituents consist solely... in this context.. of their soulless, moneyed masters in the health care industry.

Did you think they gave a rat's ass about the American people?

        Not hardly.

Pete, have you seen that guy, Max Pappas, from Freedomworks? He's pretty good, in a reptilian way, much slicker than the average corporate mouthpiece.

He's asserting that the teabaggers are the real deal and the insurance industry can't be behind it as Blue Cross supports health care reform.

I think the only reform they endorse is the idea that everybody is required to buy insurance, but this looks like a new angle for them, the INsurance companies are going to publicly express some vague support for reform. Not for any plan that will actually help, but for changes that will help out their bottom line.

Things like this and putting the wrong letter next to controversial R's.

Whenever one of the clowns on fox say "Fair and balanced" I have to shake my head in amazement. Seriously how can anyone who watches fox noise for more than two minutes actually believe their BS. It would be funny, but I really do believe that they incite violence. Fox has not reported anything that Obama has done in a positive way. Last week that idiot doocey(and that annoying smirk of his) said how can Obama run national healthcare when he cant even run cash for clunkers. Doocey said it went bankrupt after four days. From what I understand it was a big success. I freakin hate fox noise.

I was disappointed to not find any town hall meetings listed for my representatives. In fact I couldn't even find a town hall meeting relatively close to me. I would definitely love to show up at one of these events and give these shills a run for their money. American politics doesn't usually generate much more than apathy or depression in me, but this past week has got me all riled up. I'm sure I'm not the only liberal that is starting to feel this way. I usually find Democrats to be at best overly moderate, but usually blatant apologists, however this is really just too ridiculous.

I am continually amazed how democrats are constantly caught flatfooted by these kinds of Hooligan tactics that the repubs use.
This goes back to the 2000 Florida recount where organized Repubs got the media cameras to focus on their little "shutdown the recount party" And they are now doing it again with these Town Hall setups. Why are Dems always so lazy about these things and are always on the defense? we need to be crystal clear about what we are dealing with here. #1 These Town Hall agitators do not care about healthcare, not nearly as much as they are opposed to anything that Obama wants to enact. It is a false argument. #2 They are overwhelmingly White and are about evenly divided between being Right wing nuts and ill informed not overly bright racists. #3 They care not a hoot about any facts or debating the health care issue. They are intellectually dishonest. They're goals are to disrupt these meetings and gain media attention. This is nothing less than a cultural battle for our America. Let me be clear. These people must be confronted and taken to task at every opportunity,at every outburst they must be answered with facts and equal passion. To do less shows weakness and cedes the argument. Yes we must lower ourselves to this level. These conservatives think of themselves as tough and macho and they view liberals as weak and passive. We must be agressive with them and hit back hard. Nothing else will work with these people. If we do not answer these tactics effectively we do not deserve to win this cultural battle.

Cheney2012 I have a few questions for you, a simple YES/NO will suffice.

Do you think health care costs too much?

Do you think all Americans should have affordable health care?

Do you think health care in America needs reforming.

Is it fair that a person can end up bankrupt because of a serious health issue.

      I await your reply....
