What else would you call them?

August 10, 2009 2:19 pm ET by Jamison Foser

Oh, boy.  Now Newsbusters' Brent Baker is upset that former CNN reporter Bob Franken describes disruptive protesters who hang a congressman in effigy as "a crazed group of people" and a "mob."

Hmm. Baker doesn't seem all that upset. I couldn't really tell what his point was.

Need to have David Brock and Frank Schaeffer out there denouncing these obvious tactics by the right. Schaeffer was on Maddow railing against this, and Brock knows the game just as good as he does.

I prefer to point and laugh at them. They're even more entertaining than those first-cuts on American Idol.

I have a similar response, Victor, but there's a difference that makes it a bit less funny.

The people texting in their votes in sympathy with the American Idol laughing stocks don't have any direct effect on my life.

As much as the GOP might look dead-in-the-water today, the type of people being swayed by the teabaggers have had negative effects on my life in the past, and it's possible that they could in the future.

I'm with ya. Frankly, I think MSM wants American to look as stupid as they can make it look, so they prop up the morons being egged on by Beck and other leaders of the morons. At the end of the day, MSM wants and needs the status quo; they make big money delivering useless information that pits people against people and preserves future profits of fellow corporations.

Amazing how forgetful you people are. With all his faults(and there were many) Bush #2 and the Republicans took all kinds of abuse the prior 8 years...stop your crying.

We have neighbors that are far left and dear friends(we are on the right), our ideology will NEVER agree...but at least we can talk. I fear for America's future, because we are led by liars who will twist the truth to buy a vote.

Well, the lies of Bush 2 got over 100,000 Iraqis and over 4,000 US Troops killed, so the "abuse" he took was a freakin' cake walk.

Yes WE were lied to the last 8yrs. and no- one is crying just the truth. We were lied into Iraq and we were lied to about Katrina,Brownie wasn't doing a great job. As a result of those lies we are still suffering today. Good grief man with the money we've wasted in Iraq we could have funded health insurance for every US citizen.
No-one arguing against criticism, I have many things about the present administration I don't like. But whats going on from the right is not that it is hate and a seemingly disregard for fact, truth or reason. Death Panels? Rounding senior citizens for euthanasia? Government takeover of healthcare? Socialism? To have reasoned debate there have to be reasonable people. Hanging someone in effigy is not a call for debate. Your right though that many of the protestor at these public forums are being lied to and mislead by those who are twisting the truth but it's coming from your side.

Does it make any difference that the (mainstream Democratic) critiques of Bush are true and the (mainstream Republican) critiques of Obama are false?

Did you even consider truth and falsehood at all?

Sorry, Steeve, truth & lies are just "two sides of an issue" or "opposing viewpoints in an honest debate" when you're a wingnut.

We are on a path to destroy Capitalism, to "spread the wealth" by taking from one group to give to another, and in the process buying votes. The scary thing is many of you say, "What's wrong with that"

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich"

As Nixon proved, you can tax the rich 70% without destroying them.

Notice how your entire political framework is built on emotion and (a false picture of) fairness. Facts and history are nowhere in sight.

So you can tell my 'entire political framework' from a few sentences and a Lincoln quote? You might want to back off the Obama punch a little...if you find a moment of sober thought ask yourself which party is really driven by emotion and their bleeding heart view of fairness.

Facts are - Dems wanted everyone to take out a mortgage on a home...thus the housing bubble (Thanks Barney, Dodd, and others on both sides of the aisle).
Economic meltdown started with this housing problem, leading to people holding back on spending (i.e autos)
Then we elect the most anti-business President ever... is anyone really surprised that businesses and the stock market are in turmoil?
Tax those rich liberals in LA 70+% and we'll see how long the love fest continues.

It may be true that Bush the younger & Co "took a lot of abuse," but that was always from the fringes, the "alternative media" we first called it, then we were the "left blogosphere," now we're the "netroots." At no point did Bush ever take significant abuse from anyone who was in the "mainstream."

          Ah, memories.

When Bush's policies caused the mainstream media to lose half their wealth, they agreed that Bush was worthy of such abuse. But they strangely forgot to actually supply the abuse. When Bush's farewell tour came along, out came the kid gloves.

Again, "the left did it first" defense, which seems to justify saying anything. And Steeve, you are absolutely correct, when BushieCo hit the pigs in their pocketbook...<media> suddenly (ha-ha) wasn't he terrible. Good thing he only has two months to go, ha-ha. And golly, his party is still fine although they've been voted out of all branches, we'll still prop them up </media>.

So tell me, when did someone hang Bush in effigy?

When did Bush receive death threats at various Congressional offices?

When did Bush even have opposing viewpoints at ANYTHING he did (the answer to that is, um, well, never)?

When did Bush have an entire media organization dead set against him from day 1?

The equivalencies are not even close, and aside from that, Bush never got any real criticism in his first 4-5 years. It wasn't until after Katrina that people started taking notice of his ineptitude, at least in the media.

He had it easy for a long time, and then was rightfully called out for his blunders.
