But Fox certainly isn't rooting for Obama to fail.

      Absolutely not.

My recollection is that Obama was never advocating single payer and never said that the public option was an absolute must have provision.

I think progressives have been somewhat living in fantasyland expecting these results when the President hasn't been fighting for that.

Well, he was and has advocated the single payer system. This is when he was a senator. I think the date is '04:

        Obama advocates Single Payer System

There are several BHO quotes and video of him supporting this legislation. Don't go soft on us now!

I should have said he never advocated it as President.

OK, I'll buy that. My question then would be if he has been an advocate for it before and we don't have a bill (ok there are several "bills" floating about) that specifically says it but it is implied (just follow threads on this forum) that it will be there. Then can we assume he will push for single payer? At this point I don't see a tiger changing his stripes. If anything this shows that Obama has just been winging it out there right?

Maybe you have some insight as to why he wouldn't push for single payer?

I think he said it as POTUS, but if you want to split hairs we can. His minions are definitely saying it:

He might have said that in 2004, and I agree with him that it is something we should have, but he never advocated for it during this, the latest of the potential health care reforms.

Bruce is right, he never strenously fought for a public plan either, and he did say he was flexible on that, and that it was NOT a must have provision.

That being said, the final bills haven't even been written yet, so it could still be in there.

I can't lie - it definitely is a victory for "Fox Nation." Obama is doing everything to give concessions to them just to get anything passed and declare it health reform. Without a government run plan and without conceding the government the ability to negotiate lower drug prices with the drug companies I really don't see how you can call it health reform. That is not the way to control spiraling costs. Whatever ends up passing now will be meaningless in the long run as the main problems (the private insurance industry and drug companies) will be allowed to do continue business as usual, just like the financial companies that made the huge bets that almost brought the world to its knees are going to escape the situation without any meaningful reform being passed.

"PALIN CONTINUES HEALTH CARE FACEBOOK ATTACK: IS SHE MORE POWERFUL NOW?" (On the sidebar)

      Hahahahahahahahahahaha

That's so pathetic. They are cheering on her "Facebook attacks". Is this what she was talking about when she said resigning (quitting) would allow her to "effect change outside of government"? Spending her time on Facebook? Yes, scrawling angry messages in your status update is SO much more powerful than ANYTHING you could do as Chief Executive of one of the 50 states.

What's sad is that she thinks that she is affecting or moving the health care debate. She's not.

What's sad is that there really are some (though probably fewer than you'd think) people who really do think this represents leadership.

Not that Obama is doing so spectacular in terms of leadership of his party at the moment, but this woman is the comedic gift that keeps on giving.

Did anyone watch the rerun of SNL's Presidential Bash '08 last night?

Well, it's sort of true. Obama has been beaten on Health Care Reform if he abandons the public option.

I wonder how much fun Netroots is going to be in 2011 after the GOP win back congress in November of 2010.

I'm really disappointed that Vice President Rahm gave up so quickly.
