At LA Times, First Family = "Chicago clan"

August 19, 2009 8:46 am ET by Eric Boehlert

From Times blogger, and Laura Bush's former flak, Andrew Malcolm [emphasis added]:

Now that they've seen Paris together this summer, you can also scratch Arizona's Grand Canyon off the Obama family's list of must-see sites.

The Chicago clan spent a little more than three hours Sunday not hiking but looking out at the large hole in the ground created by the Colorado River over more years even than Joe Biden served in the U.S. Senate. (See video below, much shorter than three hours.)

That kind of snide, derogatory language seems to be way out of bounds for a mainstream news outlet, especially considering Malcolm is a devoted critic of the Obama White House, and that the right-wing is pushing the claim that Obama is a corrupt Chicago pol.

Yes, this is very rude. Glenn Beck also lambasted the President for wanting to take a vacation at all, but it didn't seem to bother him when George W. Bush was on vacation for a full third of his eight years in office. I think it is wonderful that the Obama girls got to go to Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. I feel kind of sorry that they only got three hours. When my family was overseas for ten years, we returned to the States every summer and went on car trips around the West to see family, friends, and National Parks. Here is one thing I noticed, I could hear as many languages being spoken by the tourists at any one of these grand parks as I heard recently in Times Square. Why is that people can come half a world away to see our national parks, but Americans are a rare commodity? I don't mind sharing the parks with foreigners, but Americans are missing out on some of the greatest places on earth, and they already own them!

Dripping with utter contempt. Speaking of "holes", Malcolm could look in his mirror and see another large one of a different kind.

One only needs to contrast Andrew Malcolm and Ezra Klein of the Washington Post to realize that the LA Times needs to rein in Malcolm or let him go so he can blog at Red State. Klein addresses questions from a left-of-center perspective, but he always cites facts, sources, and actual research. Malcolm unloads whopper after whopper with a dash of juvenile smarminess, and the Times continually looks the other way.

How dare they have a vacation at all when armed idiotic droolers are screaming they want their country back? I mean, we're in a crisis here and what does Obama do? He spends time going to meetings and an hour or two visiting parks. The nerve.

I miss the good old days when Bush II would devote all his energies and a good chunk of his presidency to the most pressing issue facing the country---brush clearing!

The MSM and our press need to catch-on much quicker than what all the noise is about Obama's "policies", health care, etc. is really all based on the fact that conservatives and right-wingies have serious deep-rooted hate for the man.

This kind of filth just proves that point.

People who support Obama and his policies need to rise up to meet the challenge. Winning the election and taking the country back was the easy part and just the beginning.

Sept13, all pro-health reform people should be organizing rallies in their cities with a huge one planned for Washington DC.
