Betsy McCaughey resigns from medical company board over "conflict of interest" concerns

August 21, 2009 6:32 pm ET by Jeremy Schulman

The Washington Independent highlights Betsy McCaughey's resignation from the board of directors of Cantel Medical Corp., a medical products company, to "avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest." McCaughey's resignation coincides with her attempt to revive her false end-of-life counseling smears on The Daily Show.

According to Cantel's press release:

LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Aug 21, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- CANTEL MEDICAL CORP. (NYSE: CMN) announced that on August 20, 2009 it received a letter of resignation from Ms. Elizabeth McCaughey as a director of the Company. Ms. McCaughey, who had served as a director since 2005, stated that she was resigning to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest during the national debate over healthcare reform.

McCaughey has been on Cantel's board since 2005, but her apparent conflict of interest hasn't kept CNN and Fox News from repeatedly hosting her to spread false attacks on health care reform.

She probably got a gig on Fox where she can continue her idiocy.
She was absolutely pathetic on The Daily Show so she should fit right in with the FNC crew.

Hmmm, sure she resign to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.... Ms. McCaughey may have received gainful employment with one of those Republican Groups opposing HealthCare Reform, that's all. LOL

The first thing Obama needs to do after health care reform is FCC reform. Time to re-diversify the ownership of mainstream media.

I could not agree more with your statement. I look forward to the day when Rupert Murdoch is arrested for the damage he has done to this country and to journalism as a whole. Then have him stripped of any media company he has purchased here in the United States.

She had to resign, because our media is such a fierce guardian of democracy. Even the slightest hint of impropriety, the slightest bending of the truth, sets off an avalanche of righteous outrage.

Too late, Betsy...every thing you've said thus far against health care reform is tainted because of your obvious conflict of interest. Resigning after the fact doesn't change anything.

Her main gig is still with the reich wing 'think tank' Hudson Institute that get's a LOT of money from healthcare 'sponsors'.

Argh... I hate posting this response because it's not meant to address the substance of what you said, or at least what you meant to say.

But given that we are trying to point out the idiocy of the comparisons to Hitler/Nazism that many seem to make with abandon, can't we, at least for the duration of that fight, abstain from resorting to such tactics ourselves? (referencing the "reich wing" comment)

AT least they said national debate, not rational debate. Betsy can't do that- she likes lying too much.

Oh darn couldn't have happened to a nicer person, oh darn.

When she was on the Daily Show, and she was looking for page 432, I sure was hoping Stewart would say, I think page 432 is right between pages 431 and 433.

Why the kid glove treatment, Mr Stewart? Betsy deserved what Cramer got: both barrels of unvarnished truth.

Jon failed to ask the really important question (apologies to Jello Biafra), namely WHO PAYS THE BILLS?

      Fellow Matterers,

Who is buying this? After Ms. McCaughey appeared on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, she "resigned." Yep, sure, ahem, NOT! If you believe that, a tangled web awaits. Spin away! Betsy McCaughey kept saying the world is flat, yet the bill said otherwise. Someone said there is nothing new under the sun. Betsy must get plenty of tickets, for running stop-signs. "Officer the sign is green, and says go."

A doctorate in anything does not give knowledge to everything.

      Best wishes,
      Ronin Kannushi.

Moonie Betsy McCaughey's Waterloo, Fired by Corporate Death Panel
      truthiest.blogspot.com/2009/08/moonie-betsy-mccaugheys-waterloo-fired.html

Betsy McCaughey, Adjunct Fellow at Moonie Hudson Institute (Hudson created Discovery Institute, the Moonie Creationist propaganda factory, and in the same Washington DC offices where Moonies created the SEPPtic Tank of Fred Singer) has been fired as Board Director at Cantel Medical Corp.

Responsible for creating the BIG LIE about govt DEATH PANELS going to kill grandma, made famous by Sarah Palin, Betsy McCaughey met her Waterloo on the Jon Stewart Show, August 21, 2009. This follows less than one week after famous Astroturfer and Chronic Liar Dick Armey met his Waterloo, and was forced out of DLA Piper PR company for similar frauds.

The END TIMES for liars has come, with big names dropping like flies. It's only a matter of time before David H. Koch does the perp walk and beats Bernie Madoff's sentence length.

This reminds me of that episode of "Dharma & Greg" when Greg walks in and finds his ne'r-do-well Pete boxing up his personal effects (and assorted office supplies) in his office. Greg asks: "You resigned?"

Pete's response? "Yeah, they came in about 8:30 and resigneded me."

Maybe she resigned because, in a surprise move, she will be replacing Glenn Beck. Relatively speaking, of course, she makes slightly more sense than Glenn.
