Fox Nation asks: "President Hannity?"

August 24, 2009 4:40 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From The Fox Nation, accessed on August 24:

fox nation

Fox Nation links to a WorldNetDaily article which claims that Hannity "would make a formidable candidate, with the likability of Reagan, good looks and strong convictions."  From the article:

Talk-show host Sean Hannity, a vocal opponent of Barack Obama's policies, said today he would not rule out a bid for the presidency in 2012.

Egged on by radio colleague Bill Cunningham, Hannity said he would consider entering the front lines of the political fray if God directs him.

"I've never made a decision in my life without - whatever destiny God has you've got to fulfill it," he said. "I'm not sure that's my destiny."

Hannity would make a formidable candidate, with the likability of Reagan, good looks and strong convictions. He's also a polished communicator and knows the issues inside out.

And he can debate.

[b]God doesn't want you to run for president, Sean. Trust me.../b]

God wants you to keep your mouth shut and stop telling lies.

Is it possible we could have a president even dumber than Bush?

He's bored many to death. I kind of think he would rather attack from the sidelines than get into a debate with Obama. And I'm not wild about another guy who thinks God wants him to be the most powerful person in the world.

Since Vannity has no use for reality or facts, "debating" is quite simple.

Whatever drugs they are on should definitely NOT be covered by the Public Option.

Hannity would be a disastrous candidate. He is not electable by any stretch of the imagination.

I have to say... I have a very hard time believing that Sean is religious in any true sense or form of the concept, and tend to believe that he uses his 'religion' as a bludgeon upon those that watch/listen to his puke-fest of a show in the hopes that those people would continue to remain blind to reality... ?!?!

I for one though would love to see InSanity and Caibu (or any Republican for that matter) run as a team... that would truly be the gift that would give for a long, long, long time!!

Other than the truly twisted (the right-wing fringe) among us in this country... I can't imagine anyone voting for this idiot!

This is where the continuing dumbing-down leads to, people like Sean Hannity seriously discussing a presidential run by a person like Sean Hannity.

It's like the frog in the water that's slowly brought to a boil, Bush, Huckabee and Palin were useful in gradually sliding the stoopidity scale to a point where a major cable "news" outlet can not only give Hannity a show, but discuss his viability as a candidate as anything but a joke.

        Capt. Foster, I believe Hannity's religion is the type used by a small group of far right extremists (not the Christianity of real Christians) and it's a very streamlined theology based on the following;

        1. the obsessive use of the abortion issue to get anti-abortion people to vote for the party that pretends they want to outlaw abortion, and

        2. A very childlike excitement about saying the Pledge of Allegiance, especially the "Under God" part, very loudly and often.

After all the years of reading(and one entire shelf of books about religion) I've discovered that most atheists are more knowledgable about the Bible (and other religions) than most theists (especially the most rabid ones).

When Huckabee was running he was actually much more reasonable than I expected. In fact it seemed like he was too liberal for the party. Not sure if that was an act or if what came later is the act.

He was too liberal for them on foreign policy. Humble, and what not. But this is the candidate who discussed changing the Constitution to bring it in line with God's will. How convenient that they all know exactly what that is.

Col. checkout this post from the Fox Nation website. Everyone should have at least one good laugh a day! This is from someone named CE.

"Sean Hannity, if he decides to run for President of the United States of American, has SOMEONE on his side that will guide him and protect him and show him which direction he must go. He said, "if God directs him". Sean has as much presidential credentials as any other president that has been in office. Look at our president now, he really deceived the American people. Sean is well known and has nothing in his background to hide."

These robots could double as comedians without trying, all they'd have to do is open their mouths. :-)

That's pretty good, Congero. Aren't we "at war" with people who were directed by God?

You have to love that the Foxnation poster feels sure that Hannity has the same credentials as any president in history, and they are somehow sure that he has nothing in his background to hide.

please run for president, sean. maybe it will be the final nail in the coffin of conservative lunacy if we can put this man and all of his inane rantings over the years in public.

of course, we're talking about the same public that elected george bush.

I suspect that Hannity is actually considering it since he witnessed (in horror) Al Franken being elected to high office.

I believe that if Hannity ran, it would have a terribly polarizing effect on the Republican Party. Best of all, after his loss (say, after two or three primaries), he would actually have to go on the air and admit defeat whenever the subject of the presidential race came up. I just can't see him admitting failure like that; he's much too proud.

Probably get less than Colbert got in the primaries. Hopefully he would stop by the daily show during the campaign.

Oh and Sean that will not be God talking to you.

And he can debate...I'm still cracking up over that one.

Why not? These non-"mainstream" talking heads think they know all the answers. The only reason they are in media is because it is more profitable and less work than politics.

Does Mr. Hannity realize that, if he ever did run for a public office, his opponent would almost certainly prove a more formidable counterpart than punching bag Colmes?

We all know it won't happen. None of these bloviators - Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, even Matthews and Olbermann - want to have their beliefs subjected to that much scrutiny.
