Towey once compared President Bush to Mother Theresa

From Jim Towey's November 8, 2008, Wall Street Journal op-ed:

Mother Teresa was asked at the end of her life whether she was discouraged because after decades of caring for the dying and destitute in Calcutta little seemed to have changed. She replied, "No. God doesn't call me to be successful. God calls me to be faithful."

History will decide whether George W. Bush was a successful President. But he was faithful. He had a charge to keep and he kept it.

      Really? History will decide whether he was a successful president? I'd love to try that one on my boss ("Hey boss, I missed my quota this month, but history will decide if I'm sucessful or not"), because in the real world success is dertermined in the here and now by virtue of your actions.

      Let's see. Using Mother Teresa as a simile for George Bush. Hmmm..

      Born rich.
      Failed businessman. (multiple times)
      ex-addict (alcohol at a minimum)
      Proponent of the death penalty (hang em high texas)
      Started two wars (one on uncertain evidence)
      Talks to God.

      OK you got me. They do both talk to God, although I doubt if they talk about the same things.

      I suppose attempts at the rehabilitation of srub was enevitable.
      Reminding the population of him right now doesn't strike me as as a smart move.
