Jumping on conservative bandwagon, Fox Nation claims "Obama Changing the 9/11 Anniversary"

August 25, 2009 12:57 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From The Fox Nation, accessed on August 25:

Why is Obama Changing the 9/11 Anniversary?

Fox Nation links to an August 24 American Spectator piece by Matthew Vadum which claims that Obama "is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry."

The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen notes that conservative blogs are embracing Vadum's piece:

But let's just note a few relevant details. First, George W. Bush called for community volunteer work on the anniversary of 9/11, and the right didn't find it controversial. Second, victims' families have recommended making 9/11 a national day of service for years. Third, Alex Koppelman explained, "Check out the official Web site set up for the day: They're asking people to come up with their own events. So if you don't want to help out at anti-American places like food banks and community gardens, you can organize your own event."

What's more, while the Vadum piece is obviously bizarre, it's also worth remembering that these disturbed ideas were quickly embraced by other far-right bloggers, including Michelle Malkin and another site that argued the president is calling for "mandatory civilian service" as part of Obama's drive to build "his civilian army."

Conservative bloggers pick the strangest things to get excited about.

Monumentally dumb, even for The American Spectator

What a total and utter bunch of BS.

This is just yet in another un-ending line of attack against Obama and democrats as being "for the terrorists".

The river of stupidity has just crested, and the levies of reason are not strong enough to hold. We are all doomed.

Well, heck, let's just go for broke and see if the Right Wing heads just explode --- Obama should call for a day of gay & lesbian parades celebrating Hugo Chavez and eugenics ...

Great idea! And with the eugenics and "death panels" plan, make it known that conservatives will be targeted regardless of age. Newly orphaned children of the "unproductive" euthanized conservatives will be adopted by gay athiest couples.

All this wacko bs is going to cause a Fox devotee to go off on a wild taking our country back mission. One day were're going to look back at Fox and wonder what happen, how did we let them go so far. Just like we talk about the MaCarthey days.
      Thank God for Media Matters.

Note the headline "Storm Continues of Freed Lockerbie Bomber. Who's to Blame?". Wanna bet Obama's a top contender by the bloggers?

During this National Day of Service, you Fox Nation fans may continue to cower in fear and wet your beds. Better bolt your doors tho, in case Obama's Black Muslim Acorn Socialist Thugs come a-calling and drag you off for an hour to work in a soup kitchen.

Why does the American Spectator request donations? Can't it make it as a magazine in the free market? It depends on charity to survive? Why is that? No market demand for this rag?

Next on Fox Nation: The exclusive story about President Obama forcing Americans on 9/11 to build those FEMA detention camps...with huts in the front for the death panals, and a library in the back for the Death Books.

Then we line up the seniors for roach motel tours...

...a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.

I know I shouldn't laugh at lines like this, but I can't help it. Have the right wing "thinkers" been stuck in some bunker since the 1950s?

Yes, yes sir they have been. Or at least, in their fantasy world, it is again the 50's, their wives are cleaning the house in high heels, supper is on the table (we don't eat dinner in the 50's, that's too elitist) when they get home, and they only have to go to work, not help the kids do anything, and scream about how the government is full of socialist and Nazis and communists.

Oh, also in their little world, Reagan has been elected "President for Life" of the United States of America.

None are as blind as those who will not see. I have heard about the Obama Zombie sites but never thought I'd actually see one. I do have to agree with kftaz43 though. We are truly all doomed but not in the way I'm sure he/she believes. We are doomed at the hands of Obama and his minions. By the way, I am not a racist. I disagree with Obama's white half just as much as I do his black half. Y'all can keep the change.

"It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." (Shakespeare's Macbeth)

Please give a specific complaint about Obama. Saying "we are doomed" at his hands is irrational screeching, nothing more.
