Ted Kennedy on the importance of "a free and robust press"

August 26, 2009 2:22 pm ET by Karl Frisch

"Throughout our history, the press has been an indispensable check on government. The information produced by the press contributes to our policy debates, exposes wrongdoing, and in fundamental ways makes our democracy work. A government that acts in the sunshine is far less likely to behave in unlawful or tyrannical ways. A citizenry informed by a free and robust press is essential to our nation." – Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, 10/4/2007

This should be engraved into the walls of every newsroom in America.

This would even inspire Fox with a sense of perverse pride in what they do.

Ah, no it wouldn't. FOX feels like they are doing a good job now. They would just interpet this to mean that they needed to keep up the status quo.

There is a big difference between searching out the truth behind a story compared to skewing the story to fit your bias.
