11 more advertisers bail on Beck; total now at 57

September 02, 2009 7:16 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From a September 2 press release from ColorOfChange.org:

Eleven new companies whose ads were recently seen during Beck's program -- Binder & Binder, Capital One, The Dannon Company, Discover, HSBC, ICAN Benefit Group Insurance, Infiniti, Jelmar (manufacturer of CLR All-Purpose Cleaner), Jordan McKenna Debt Counseling Network, Mercedes-Benz and Simplex Healthcare (creator of the Diabetes Care Club) -- have pledged to ColorOfChange.org to take steps to ensure that their ads don't run on Beck's show. Fifty-seven companies have now committed not to support Beck's show since ColorOfChange.org launched its campaign four weeks ago after the Fox News Channel host called President Obama a "racist" who "has a deep-seated hatred for white people" during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

"We applaud those companies that have recently pulled their support from Beck," said James Rucker, executive director of ColorOfChange.org. "There are at least 57 companies who will not tolerate Beck's race-baiting comments and we will continue to reach out to those who are still supporting him."

Har, har, har, har... Before long there'll only be local ads from guys dressed funny selling furniture...no one's credit turned dowN.

Deep down, I think Beck wants to fail and play the martyr for the cause.

This is actually good small business stimulus. Just think of all the pawn shops and cash for gold outfits that now have a cheap advertising opportunity to reach their target audience! Maybe they can get Smith and Wesson to advertise. Talk about a perfect target audience.

You know, I never get tired of the crazy generalizations that you wingnuts throw out there. I know I never tell the truth, I love to "twist a lie" whenever I can. Of course, the fact that you two don't know how advertising works, and how Binder and Binder have pledged to pull their ads, and how the process takes some time seems to fly over your heads.

              Get a job, wingnuts!

Still using the Rove tactic of accusing others of doing what you are doing. Examples everywhere of conservatives willfully lying. Death panels anyone? You're just being a child with such stupid comments. Libs are KNOWN for their fact checking.

To others here...We, like Obama, should just demand a bill out of committee or leave them out of the reform process, as all they have done is just delay and stall trying to find a way for the ins, profiteers to continue profiteering. (like co-ops or triggers. That's the best they could come up with?)

Seriously though I don't think that this guy can be that blind & ignorant. What I think really has happened is that this guy is really a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT but he has a computer virus written by KKKarl Rove that automatically changes the words "Republican(s), GOP, G NO P, Conservative(S)" or any variation of the word(s) to "Democrat, Lib(s), Liberal, etc..."
Now I know a computer virus isn't an easy thing to "make" when that person has no idea how to code but NEVER underestimate the power of STUPID people in LARGE GROUPS!

Actually, I think Beck is trying to get himself muzzled...by anyone. He wants to be the martyr for the cause and have "We The People" rally around him. Beck is a seriously unbalanced dude...

Sponsors buying ad time that flows the cash that overpays Beck on his syndicated radio programming (of weak-minded impressionable listeners), all THOSE BeckRadio Sponsors share equal shame and civil indecency as much as BeckFUX-TV Sponsors.

In Portland, KXL 750 AM syndicates BeckRadio 9 - noon, leading into local-originated Lars 'he puts the I in LIARS' Larson's programming noon - 4, followed by Savage sewage 4 - 7. Today, callers to 'LIARS' called him out for Beck-contamination airing with him, and 'LIARS' admitted some radio station sponsors have canceled or are not renewing because of the Beck taint.

Sponsors buying time in Beck or anywhere on his host channel, (TV or radio), are sponsors liable for legal charges of Civil Rights violations ... if not high-criminal sedition or incitement to treason against government. They pay Beck to say those violations of broadcast regulations and law.

Ditto the sponsors of other hatetalking heads.

        I got a response from one of the sponsors I wrote to last week, commending them for dumping Beck;

        Dear Mr. [Sanders],

Recent media reports have created the incorrect impression that Progressive pulled advertising in response to specific comments made on The Glenn Beck Show, but that is not the case. The fact is that we did not intentionally place any of our advertising on the show, so when we learned that our ad had aired, we corrected the error.

Our goal is to reach a broad range of drivers to make them aware of our products and services. We value feedback on our advertising strategy, but because auto insurance is a very competitive business, we don’t discuss everything that goes into our ad placement decisions. We’d like to thank you for taking the time to express your opinion.

        Sincerely,

        Mary O.
        Progressive Internet Representative

On another Beck-craziness note, I watched some of his show tonight.(The Daily Show is on vacation, and Beck fans at this site keep insisting we need to watch his show to get all of the nuance, and I needed a laugh), and I highly recommend it to anybody who can find humor in watching manic-depressive paranoids melt down.

Beck was playing art critic, analyzing sculptures and reliefs in NYC ( I think that's where he was) finding communist symbols in the decorative details of buildings inhabited by "left wing" broadcasters.

The prize winner; "Beating swords into ploughshares", which Beck cited properly as from The Bible (Isaiah I think).

He then produced a figurine which he said he keeps on his desk, depicting this line, which he turned around to show that it was "made in the U.S.S.R.

Then he showed a depiction of the swords to ploughshares idea on a building, making some hammer and sickle connection.

I guess his target audience wasn't supposed to have the attention span needed to notice that he had called The Bible communist, but it was pretty funny.

The real story on Beck is not that he sensationalizes everything or plays the race card, it rather that he could actually care less about anyting he seems to be so passionate about. Bottom line, he's a fraud and a book and T shirt seller. He is only dangerous in that somebody who is unbalanced might see his words as a call to direct action, we all pay this never happens but a continual fanning of a spark will usually result in a flame. Beck praises p-laces like Texas and Alaska but resides in NY. He "supports" our troops but like his buddy and mentor Rush, never saw fit to serve a day in uniform. All the survivalist food storage and similar rants are best seen in the light of his wealthy lifestyle. And, he trives on self promotion and controversy. Once he is exposed for the absolute fraud that he is, his days will be numbered. Until then, ignoring him would be the best policy. The Mormons who interupt your dinner are asked not to return, the one on the radio should be treated likewise.

Before ColorOfChange began their intimidation of Glenn Becks sponsors, Glenn had been pointing out how radical Van Jones was. Oh by the way, Van Jones (the self-proclaimed communist) is the founder of ColorOfChange…coincidence, I think not.

The more Glenn points out the radial and anti-capitalist view of Mr. Jones the more ColorOfChange goes after Mr. Beck.

Is this the “Change” we voted for????…if someone says something you don’t like (thats true) don’t debate them just try and shut them up.

      Fellow Matterers,

With that many sponsors dropping out, is there any question as to the mind-set his employer exercises? Ah, free speech. I love it!

G.Beck can say anything he wants to say, and the Constitution protects his right to say it. Woo-hoo, to that! G.Beck is another issue.

The racist are coming, the racist are coming..., cry's Beck. They will shackle by hand and foot..., he continues.
Our lives are in jeopardy...can I get a, "C?" He still strikes me as a wee-hour televangelist, selling toothpicks. It is no wonder, I change the channel, dental floss.

G.Beck is still on the air, counting ratings, and getting paid. I imagine, sponsors are advertising on other programs, within the network. That implies the sponsors support G.Beck by proxy.

And who better than the network? Who has not seen this before? Politics anyone?

If the network was sincere about human rights, and facts, G.Beck would be gone.

      It be it,

It really doesn't matter how many advertisers leave Becks show. He rates second in Cable News. If corporations wish to get exposure they are the losers by advertising on the left wing networks such as CNN and MSNBC. Olbermann is low man on the totem poll. And that is in prime time.

Don't worry about Beck. He will survive. He is laughing all the way to the bank.

Where do you get your information? Keith Olbermann is just a sock puppet. Does he really believe he will be staying very long in that time slot?

Glenn Beck never said the President hates white people. He blames both Democrats and Republicans for the economic problems of our country. But he and I both are against these unelected advisers that are tied with extreme groups.

One mistake Obama makes is blaming Fox for inaccuracies on health care reform. To me this shows the President is afraid. And that is not a good trait to have as President of the United States.

Now that Billy Mays is gone cable television needs another 3am pitchman. Perhaps that would be a suitable line of work for Glennie. Flies Away--now there's the ticket. And I wonder if there are left over crates Ginsu Knives--I mean the original ones--not those new fangled cryogenically cooled Ginsu Chikaras that actually work. Unfortunately Beck only has the mouth--not the integrity or intelligence of Mays. Perhaps Becky could hawk 55 gallon drums of PCBs stolen from Superfund sites to Fox news viewers--you know--the ones who think Sarah Palin is an intellectual (whoops--wrong link). I mean--if you don't mind a few tumors--it still makes a pretty good lubricant, coolant, or cutting oil.

He's on the radio up till 3AM ET from a Minnesota Station. Though his radio program has a bit more bite in it.

I do not believe you even watch his program. If you did for one week you would find that he backs all of his comments up with facts. Something lacking in the main stream media like ABC, CBS and NBC.

Try it sometime. You may find you like his opposing views. How can anyone be fair if they don't know both sides of the argument?

And by the way he works with a staff of 7 and a shared pool of 50. Shared means for everyone on the Fox News Channel.

"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?"

Here's a hint, it's not an issue of freedom of speech. The media, and especially cable news, is business, and just like any business, they make decisions based on the bottom line. No one is trying to silence Glenn Beck. He can stand on any street corner he wishes and yell about how Obama is turning us into an "Oligarhy" And I would completely defend his right to do so.

I swear all you movement conservatives have your own secret version of the Constitution that guarantees M16's to the mentally ill and doesn't have anything else past the 3rd amendment (except for the 10th!) Can one of you send me a copy?

Beck is clinically insane and Faux parades him for shock value but he's ridiculous and has gone way too far in insulting humanism. What is Faux gonna do with all that air time they could be selling ads on? Eventually, it will become extremely costly for the revenues lost that could have advertised during his show. But then How many millions did they lose for the first four years of Hannity. Thanks color of change for your efforts to penalize the Beck insanity which will eventually cause violence if allowed to continue. Driftglass calls such thugs "Beckshirts" and Beck certainly incites violence as the means of dealing with what he disagrees with.
