Time to change the locks? Glenn Beck to receive "key to the city" in Mount Vernon, WA
September 03, 2009 3:28 pm ET by Karl Frisch
According to KOMO News Radio in Seattle, Mount Vernon Mayor Bud Norris (mvmayor@ci.mount-vernon.wa.us) will, "give the key to his city to conservative talk show host Glenn Beck on September 26."
More via KOMOnews.com:
Norris says Beck will deliver a short talk that night and become the first person to receive a key to the city in the six years Norris has been mayor.
Protesters from the Skagit County Young Democrats walked outside city hall Tuesday with protest signs, one reading "Change the locks!"
They called it "totally inappropriate" to give a man who labeled President Barack Obama a "racist" a key to the city.
Norris told KOMO News the key does not represent city approval of every comment that Beck may make, but recognizes a local boy who made it big.
Norris says he knew Beck when the talk show host was just 12 years old. He said he remembers the tyke carrying a sandwich board saying "Vote for Norris for county commissioner" up and down Mount Vernon's First Street.
He said he and Beck's parents were friends, but said this is not a political payback for campaigning decades ago. He said this is merely a recognition of someone who is from Mount Vernon.
I guess this is a fair trade -- a key in exchange for at least 57 advertisers walking away from his Fox News program.

Made it big regardless of the means?
What if a Mt. Vernon local goes on to make it big as a drug lord?
Prond to be an American
the only comments i can think of is before election when beck talked about sitting in wrights church which is a white hate church, and I know you have heard the comments of wright about whites, that how can someone sit in a wrights church for 20 years and say he never talked hatred. If you would like I will more then happy to give you all the links too wrights comments about whites. this I do believe didn't just come about after obama left his church to make things look good for the election.
It comes as no surprise when a white supremacist awards another white supremacist the keys to the city that was and still is a sundown town.
I know peeps think it a sea of blue out here, but they are wrong.
Conservafella, you seem to be saying that hatred is only bad when "they" do it. Or are you saying it doesn't count when you hate because "they do it too?" The facts are biased against your "beliefs".

And if he reads the article, how will he respond? With a well-worded apology and a promise to educate himself for his next foray here? Or by ignoring the obvious and somehow blaming us for his embarrassing position? I never gamble, but I know where I'd place my bets.
Kudos for following through on that. Now will you admit you were wrong?
and as far as the rest of you, why the hate words too me, I'm not racist.
Did anyone accuse you of being racist? I haven't found it. I accused you of being barely literate, and each post of yours proves it beyond question.
But I do feel the same of what beck said,
Beck said that Obama has a deep-seated hatred of white people. If you actually agree, then would you care to back it up? Beck hasn't been able to do so.
how can pbo sit in a white hate church and not feel or believe the same.
First of all, it's not a "white hate church," and second of all, Obama is not a robot who automatically believes everything the pastor says. I have had plenty of disagreements with my pastors over the years. Enough with that canard, already.
He hired Van Jones you know just as well as everyother intelligent person, he is a black nationalist and a vowed communist. He Hates whites, he believes we are poisoning the farm workers and the rest of all minorities. so with that being said. I'm sure the only good highly educated reply you can come up with is, I'm a racist, right, because i gave facts not fiction.
Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not going to accuse you of being racist. The truth is that you gave nothing but fiction, and that you no doubt gleaned from right-wing talk radio and/or fruitcake websites. And then you served it up in your barely comprehensible version of English. You're not a racist, but you're too lazy to look up actual facts, and you're not bright enough to present them well at all.
There are conservatives on these boards that are worth reading. I hope some day you are able to join their ranks.
Beck is disliked, not because of his phony "conservatism," but because of his hate speech, his lies and his incitement to violence. None of those things have anything to do with political ideology, but he knows that they appeal to a certain class of people who don't understand that disagreement is not an indication of "evil."
Apparently, that would be you.
Your name is a misnomer . . . you aren't a conservative, you are simply a hater. That's all. I daresay, you don't have a clue what the definition of either political ideology is.
I believe in the freedom of speech too. But with that freedom comes responsibility. And with Beck, with all these accusations he's throwing about the Obama admin and the democrats, without showing any proof, he's clearly being irresponsible. But does he care? I don't think so. I think all he cares is that he has the ratings and the millions he earn from being an ENTERTAINER.
The whole Country is crazy.

Funny the city web page says nothing about the coming of the "great" Glenn Beck.
