September 24, 2009 9:14 am ET by Media Matters staff

Following Drudge and the right-wing blogosphere in invading children's privacy, Fox Nation is linking to a YouTube video purporting to show "[s]chool kids taught to praise Obama."

Scary if the person who posted this video on YouTube works at that school- because his friends/subscriptions on YouTube are nothing but Muslim hating, Obama hating, crazy wingnuts! I know you can not fire someone for being a jackass and who he/she listens to on her free time BUT i ams sure some kind of law was violated by making a video of these kids and posting it online without their parents consent.

Now for the CONSERVATARD MEDIA who is plastering the video all over the place-they are just as guilty for exploiting these kids. I say sue the creeps

Isn't it a pretty big assumption to say the kids' parents didn't give their consent?

How can we be "sure some kind of law was violated" unless we know the circumstances of who shot the video, who posted it, who approved it?

i think the point is that it's pretty scummy to use video of a kid singing a song for political condemnation

I understand what the point is, and I agree with it.

But to jump from "This is a pretty scummy thing to do" over to "I'm sure there was a crime committed" is getting ahead of ourselves, isn't it?

Your icon and words don't quite match! American Red, White and Blue peace sign....and your answer is to SUE the creeps. Scary for my grandchildren if you were the typical patriotic American. Fortunately YOU ARE NOT! If my children or grandsons were in that school, I would be outraged. Making them sing the same verses about Jesus replaced with Obama or any other Man is just plain wrong. Good that this is exposed - could be going on in other schools and should not be tolerated.

Liberian singer released CD praising George Bush and his policies! And the media didn't flinch. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/feb/21/thank-you-george-bush/?feat=article_related_stories

Has anyone actually seen the video? The kids apparently are getting ready for a visit from the President.

But it's clear that this was a non-scripted rehearsal, and I really doubt that the kids' parents gave permission to have their kids on this video. Without that permission, journalists and news sources shouldn't be showing kids. Heck, they don't even show license plates of cars on reality shows, or the faces of fat people walking down the sidewalk on news stories about fat people.

Here are the "offensive" lyrics. Just like they got all worked up about Obama's Dept of Education suggesting that students write about how they will help Obama reach his goals, when those goals were reasonable and entirely non-partisan, these lyrics are also non-partisan. Looks like it was taped this past June.

It's fools on the right who claim that Obama is our messiah, not us. Find any lyric below that would be something bad to say about any President. Go ahead, I dare you.

        Hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must all lend a hand
To make this Country strong again

        Hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be fair today
        Equal work means equal pay

        Hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama
He said we all must take a stance
To make sure everyone gets a chance

        Hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black, or white,
All are equal in his sight

        Hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama
        Yes, hmm, hmm, hmm
        Barack Hussein Obama

The use of pre-arranged photos, taken in a protected environment such as a school or hospital, and showing a highly-defined and recognizable image, requires a release; the release must be signed by a parent or teacher. In disseminating photos of children, consider first whether it might create a new vulnerability of unwanted attention for the child(ren).

So says the EPA in relation to the protection of the privacy rights of children.

Wow,...there is no excuse for this. The teachers involved need to be fired, as well as any and all adminstrators at the school and in the district who were aware of this. The is gross explotiation of these children.

Actually, no, it's not. Kids perform for the benefit/entertainment of our Presidents all the time. It's not exploitation.

George H.W. Bush, plus the governor and several lesser political figures, came to my high school when he was running for vice president in 1980. We were all made to clap and cheer as if we really supported these clowns. Was this "gross explotiation [sic]" too?

Can't wait for the 'other side' of this story to come out. The one where it was something COMPLETELY taken out of context!

I am really getting tired of this garbage. It's the same thing every day with these manufactured controversies. Extreme nutjob sites create new paranoid conspiracy theory to provoke a reaction, it makes the rounds, repeat over and over on multiple sites to make it appear more legitimate. Eventually bring it into more mainstream via Faux Noise proxy.

By the time the 'other' side of the story has a chance to come out this story is already being accepted as FACT by the usual suspects and then as soon as the TRUTH get's discovered that shows it all as nothing but SPEW they simply move on to the next paranoid consipiracy theory.

CIVIL WAR OR SECCESSION. TAKE your pick because I think most people like myself have had just about enough of this nonsense. Obviously, the southern nutjobs need a good a$$ wuppin every couple hundred years to put them in their place! Git er done!

There is no other side or safe explanation as to why school children are focred to sign a song about Obama, and filmed while doing it. This is a pathetic abuse of the teachers powers, and the teacher should be fired immediately.

Such nonsense in just a couple of sentences.

This song was sung during the Black History Month educational opportunity at a New Jersey school. Imagine that - they sang a song about a couple of the praiseworthy actions of the first black President during an assembly about Black History Month!!!

Forced to sing a song about the first black President during February? Omigod. What a normal thing for a student to do!

Filmed while they did it? Omigod. Someone filmed a bunch of school kids performing. I've never heard of such a thing - filming kinds performing in a school event.

          Stop digging. You're deep enough.

Doooooh!!!! Whats this? Recording the video was unauthorized?? Which means parents weren't notified? Looks like a fantatic is about to get her ass sued off.

      Dear Burlington Township Families:

Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.

If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me or Dr. King, Principal of B. Bernice Young School, directly.

      Sincerely,
      Dr. Christopher M. Manno,
      Superintendent of Schools
