Is Breitbart busy wiping the egg off his face?

September 29, 2009 5:21 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

See, this is what happens when radical, right-wing partisan try to practice journalism. More times than not, they end up making fools of themselves. Because they have no idea how journalism works, nor do they care. And sure enough, Breitbart.tv became a laughing stock today when, driven by its blind hatred of Obama, the site claimed to have uncovered a video of community organizers praying to Obama.

Obedient right-wing bloggers then piled on, openly mocking a group of mostly African-Americans as they gathered in prayer. That's right, today's GOP Noise Machine, when not attacking school kids, sets aside time to ridicule people in prayer. (One right-wing site accused the organizers of "blasphemy.")

The punch line came when some sane people outside of Breitbart's hate circle actually watched the video and realized that the community organizers who gathered (nine months ago, BTW), weren't saying "Obama," but were saying "Oh God," which is typical when people are in prayer. In other words, Breitbart posted a video mocking a group of activists while they prayed to God and asked for guidance. Breitbart completely smeared the community organizers with an entirely trumped-up charge.

He bungled the audio when the whole point of the gotcha video was the words chanted on the audio. If the community organizers weren't saying "Obama," which they weren't, than the whole smear falls apart. Which it has.

Andrew, please tell us again how you're going to single-handedly re-invent conservative journalism. Because if this is what you have in mind, it's gonna be a laugh riot to watch.

UPDATED: Clueless right-wing bloggers are still touting Breitbart's misguided hatchet job (i.e the "shocking video"), even though Breitbart's site admits it has no idea what people are saying on the video.

UPDATED: Like I said, so much for conservative "journalism."

There is no such thing as "conservative journalism". Those two words no longer match. That's like saying "prostitute virgin".

        Oh... ummm... never mind.

A level of competence exists that is below the competence of mainstream pundits. Time to rewrite some physical laws.

They hate God, but they love religion. It's nuts.

Or alternatively, the love to preach about Christ, but don't care about what Christ preached.

              Good point.

I actually saw a poster displayed by a Republican candidate for Illinois state representative that said "Christians for capital punishment, lower taxes, and the right to bear arms." It was a real sign put there by the candidate himself. Jesus would turn over in his grave.

All you have to do understand how they think, politically, philosophically, religiously, and in just about every other way is this:

                1) The RICH conservatives, have money, and just want to keep as much of what they already have as humanly possible, even if they're sacrificing the very sustainablility of their income and everyone else's to do so. If they can keep what they've "earned" then that's all they want.

to do this, to get the necessary votes for their guy, they had to convince a lot of OTHER 'conservtaives' (those without a big pile o'money) that...

                2) ABORTION (and perhaps, a more recetn addition, Gay Marriage) trumps EVERYTHING ELSE. That you might find a candidiate that does eveything Jesus did and said, right down to the beard, robe and sandals... But he's not agressively trying to shift the ideology of the judiciary agianst abortion and gays...

                NOTHING. ELSE. MATTERS.

                ------------------------------------------------------------
That's why I always say that conservatives only come in two flavors: evil and stupid. Ones lies, while the other buys.

My local AM station (a Fox affiliate) went with this story for an hour with the host saying how utterly scared he was of people praying to Obama and how he'd never ever heard anything like this before.

I guess that's because he doesn't hear very well. Or he's seen/heard a black congregation before.

The lunatics have no shame, so they don't care if they are wrong. They'll say "well, they COULD have said Obama", leave the lie alive, and move on.

      From Gateway Pundit comment:
"I did not watch the words. You are correct most of it is "O God" as a response. However, there are more than one "Obama". It is pretty clear. Listen for it. You will hear it."

There's also that, they can simply say it happened, even though it didn't. Why not make up your own reality, when this one doesn't fit?

Or this Gateway Pundit commenter: "If one listens to this without your printing the name Obama on it, one can clearly hear that they are saying Oh, God. I heard Obama until I saw that Glenn Beck questioned it."

Ah. Well, if Glenn Beck says it, it must be true! Why believe your own ears, when Glenn Beck is around?
