Hmm, I was there and I don't remember 2 million people being there. I saw about 60,000-70,000 thousand people there, they were neat, they did put their posters in the trash on the way home. They were angry, but most of them didn't seem to understand what it was that they were protesting.

It's like that old Brando movie:

"What are you rebelling against, Johnny?"

        "Whatta ya got?"

        The very definition of simplemindedness.

There were fewer people at the D.C. march than were at the UT-Texas Tech game in Austin a few weeks ago . . . about 35,000 fewer. Colt McCoy and Taylor Potts drew a bigger crowd.

I remember it jumped up to 2 million, back down to 35k, and then more accurately put at around 75k-100k... but then Beck said on his show that nobody knows, much like anything else he talks about, so it might as well be 2 million, it makes them feel better about being the minority.

The only thing that scares me is how lazy Americans are, and Obama saw a good boost last election, but if Americans get lazy, and Fox News angers enough right wingers to put down their guns and head to the polls, we may see a brief return of conservatives in the capital, and stall any worthwhile legislation.

Yes, I admit to being a bit nervous of a surge in Republicans in the Legislature. In times past, there were honorable Republicans who would work with the Democrats and they accomplished things. The Reagan Revolution, and Newt Gingrich's rise to power drove out the moderates and turned the party into ugly, angry people who won't compromise or work with anyone but their own, and they attack anyone of their own who even tries. This is not bipartisanship, this is not good government. We need a party that speaks for small business, smaller government, and traditional values without rancor or accusations, when civil discourse returns, government will improve.

Wow, the 9/12 protest in DC was now 2 million people. Right wing accounts of that protest crowd are set to surpass the US population by 2012.

They won't. My former guy repeats the "fair and balanced" meme like a robot and constantly claims that Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck "tell IT like IT is." He can't tell you what IT is, but Bill and Glenn can really tell it.

Wow (again), I just went to the event's website. Organizers are actually asking their people to not use "racial epithets" when protesting on 10/17. They sure know their constituency!

Of course, the site could have said, "Racists aren't welcome at the rally!"

But that result in a much smaller rally.

I know. Check out their 10/17 message:

          No Anti-Obama, Anti-Pelosi, Anti-Reid, etc messages
          No Obamacare / Healthcare messages
          No "Liar" related
No name calling (e.g. dumb, stupid, racial epithet, etc.)
No Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh for President

          No they can't!

Aw mannnnn, they better not interfere with our protest! Hmph! Figures the right-wingers would try to piggy-back on top of our event!!! I bet they'll try to make it seem like we're all part of the same action.

Most of the tea party goers have not the slightest clue as to why these gatherings happen except as a way to meet other like-minded fools, neanderthals, thugs, bullies, and racists!

These are the same people who completely failed to stand and be counted in 2002 when the Bush Administration's relentlessly pushed and lied its way into war on Iraq. Trillions of dollars spent and thousands of American lives lost. At moment in our nation's history, the teabaggers sat on their couches refusing to muster the courage to speak truth to power. Fast forward to November 2008, when it became time for America to speak; half of them stayed home and the other half voted for John McCain. And they lost mightily. Fox News likes to call these people that they rile up some kind of sleeping giant that's waking up. Truth is, they're more like Rip Van Winkle.

Dude...do you really believe they think there were 2 million people at that rally?

The notion that there were 2 million people there is so patently absurd, they might as well have claimed 10 million.

Other than there weren't "2 million", that the main stream media didn't cover it, that they were the "most-behaved/respected", that it wasn't just about taxes, that they weren't all patriots, and that it wasn't the "largest ever"---everything else FOX says in this blurb is correct. Of course, that only leaves the fact that they spelled "Washington" correctly.

FOX is correct about one other thing: their "Nation" is out of the main stream.

I'm sorry no one has commented on the main point of this posting - that they're marching on "media outlets". How obscene and offensive is that? Since when is it appropriate to try to intimidate media sources like newspapers and TV stations and cable news networks?

Of course, it's based upon a false premise - that media outlets didn't cover the events (hint-they did), and so they are going to take the tea parties directly to the tv stations and newspaper and cable offices so that the media can't ignore them (hint-they didn't ignore you before; they just didn't promote the events like FoxNews did).

They went after children earlier this week.

Do you think they'd hesitate to go after media outlets?

No one seems to have noticed the best part of all. While claiming that 2 million people were at the D.C. protest, they slip in this gem: "I'll bet for every one patriot that went to D.C. there are 10-20 more who wished they could have been there as well." So they think there are 20-40 million of these insane tea party protesters? Seriously?

It's pointed out above where the "about 2,000,000" figure comes from.

"I'll bet for every one patriot who went to D.C. there are 10-20 more who wished they could have been there as well."

Now just follow the conservative logic. 10-20 is almost 30. What's 30 times 60,000? Why, it's almost 2,000,000. Case closed.

DC Fire Department Report" Quote Regarding September 12 Event Misrepresents Agency Policy

      http://newsroom.dc.gov/show.aspx/agency/fems/section/2/release/18165

I was at the event and was told by the police it was one of the largest events they have ever worked. Also, the Park Police thought there were 1.5 Million people there. Where I was working at the event, the Park Police were assisting. The Capitol Police were the people near our group of volunteer and were amazed at the number of people. Before the march started the front of the Capitol was pretty much filled with those who came directly to the Capitol. (It holds 240,000 people and was standing room only almost as soon as the first of the marchers arrived.) They were lucky because the march was forced to start early because people were standing 3 blocks deep from Freedom Park and poured in to DC until 2:00PM. The event ended a little after 4pm, I believe.

There were hundreds of thousands of people - so many they weren't even standing on the mall - they had to stand up the avenues because that was the only place for them to fit in. The police demanded that a circle in one of the major streets be cleared for safety vehicles (there were two first aid calls, but thankfully no deaths, which we were told to expect.) The link above is to the D.C. Fire Department. There was a tweet from Lafayette Park, a small park just. N. of the White House, that said there were 60,000 to 70,000 people massed there. Some in the media picked it up and used that early A.M. estimate of the Lafayette Park group to state the size of the march. We all laughed at that, but the Fire Department isn’t laughing. They are pretty ticked off that the media mislead the public and used them to do it. The people were amassing there because they could not get any closer to Freedom Park, an overflow gathering spot.

Facts: There were hundreds of thousands of Metro Tickets sold on 9-12, far more than normal. Most people didn't even use the Metro that attended the march. There were no available hotel rooms within 125 miles of D.C. the night before the march; 450 buses were registered to drive into DC the day of the March, the city of D.C. was almost shut down as people tried to get to the event. The crowd was so large that as many of the elderly people left early, those who arrived late filled in the gaps so the size of the crowd was not static. And last, there was not a piece of paper that I could see on the ground anywhere after we left the mall. The police told us we where the nicest protestors they had ever worked with.

You should be very afraid, if you are hoping the Liberals and Progressives keep power next year. There were two of us from my hometown in D.C. and 195, people back home at a restaurant watching the event on T.V. That is far more than 10 or 15 to 1. You will see your head handed to you in 2010 and 2012 because we are far from angry at the socialist noises coming from President Obama's administration, we are outraged! We are Active! We are on the march for our beliefs and we will vote with our money in who we support across the nation and we will be at the polls early on Election Day. We are a force to be reckoned with.
Next year we will be twice the size as this year. We have been awakened. You have never known us, but you will.
For the person above who said they were there and we were 70,000, I am calling you out as a liar. If you were there you would have seen the greatest gathering of people, maybe in your entire life. I have been to a lot of 105,000 sized football games at U of M and the marchers could have filled that stadium at least 10 times, easy!
