The NYT does have a problem covering conservatives

October 01, 2009 4:00 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

The recent hand-wringing over the at Times has centered around outside partisan claims that the newspaper's been too slow to pick up on the hot issues bubbling up from the right-wing; that the Times just isnt' in tune with Conservative media and opinion these days. So steps are being taken at the Times. The situation will be remedied.

Still, I'm with the Daily Howler on this one: The daily newspaper does have a problem covering conservatives, and especially the conservative media in America. But rather of not paying enough attention to all the supposedly important stories the right-wing breaks, the real problem is that the Times has remained dutifully silent for years about the avalanche of misinformation the GOP Noise Machine spreads around.

Wrote the Howler [emphasis added]:

For years, the Times has “had trouble” telling readers about the giant mountains of bullsh*t emitting from these swamps. For decades, they have run and hid from the ugliest, stupidest stories which have “arisen from this world.” They ran and hid when this fetid world accused the Clintons of serial murders. When the Times reviewed Ann Coulter’s first major book, it ran and hid from all the nonsense found inside its covers. During that same era, the Times actively invented the Whitewater pseudo-controversy, and the fake phony “lies” of Al Gore, of course. Sometimes, the Times has promoted this world’s phony claims. But when it doesn’t promote such claims, it turns a blind eye to the nonsense.

The New York Times has run and hid from the world of pseudo-conservative talk—when it wasn’t actively involved in actively pimping that world’s frameworks, of course. This big newspaper has simply refused to address the world of pseudo-conservative disinformation and hysteria. Seeing no evil and hearing no evil has long been this paper’s MO.

I think their board room wants it both ways because of the $$$ that Fox and their ilk bring in. Yet, yet, they allow them to insult the paper with virtually no blow back, and in the last year have published puffy feel-goods on Rush and I believe Glenny. No b*lls, no babies, as the old saying goes.

Once again, MMFA demonstrates what their real mission statement is: attack any from of media that does not trash republicans, their beliefs and values, and ideas, on a regular basis.

A conservative defending the New York Times. Might be hilarious, but actually its appropriate. So now suddenly you're defending the New York Times when you've been trashing it for years. Now suddenly it does NOT trash Republicans and conservatives on a regular basis, when all this time conservatives have been saying that it does. It's amazing how easy it is to see right through you guys.

          THANK YOU.

How dare MMFA criticize anyone for ignoring conservatives who said the Clintons were murderers.

The NYT, armed with Judity Miller, Michael Gordon, etc., parroted every false talking point made by conservatives to get us into war and now they think that maybe they aren't conservative enough? Give me a freaking break.

The Times has made it's bed, and now it will have to lie in it. Just like the rest of the declining old media, it has been judged an been found wanting. The MSM has been too biased for far too long to attempt any real reform towards a balanced take of daily events. It a case of too little, too late. Declining readership/viewership/ad revenues is the result. Now, conservatives happily sit on the sidelines and watch liberal media slip deeper and deeper into the tar pit just like the dinosaurs that they are.

This is the same "liberal" New York Times that broke the Whitewater story and had Judy Miller parroting Bush White House talking points on Iraq and writing a series of discreditd articles on Iraq and Weapons of Mass Destruction. It's amazing how foolishly selective conservatives can be.

      THANK YOU.
