Update: Meet Rush in St. Louis? - Top 10 reasons Limbaugh would be worst football owner in world

October 06, 2009 2:58 pm ET by Karl Frisch

Yesterday, we brought you news that El Rushbo himself, Rush Limbaugh, has confirmed his interest in buying the NFL's St. Louis Rams:

Almost six years to the day after radio host Rush Limbaugh resigned in disgrace from his brand-spanking new gig on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown for, as CNN reported at the time, "his statement that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed," El Rushbo confirmed today that he's interested in buying the St. Louis Rams.

[…]

This could get interesting.  According to an OpenSecrets.org review of Federal campaign contributions between 1989-2009, the Rams are the bluest team in the NFL giving 98% of its contributions to Democrats. (H/T to S.L.)

Now, Michael Roston over at True/Slant now brings us, "Limbaugh’s 10 awesomest terriblest remarks about pro football that I found while watching the Steelers beat the Chargers on Sunday night."

01. Rush compared black football players on the field to fighting gang members.
02. Rush can’t let go of his enmity with McNabb and the Eagles.
03. Limbaugh thinks Michael Vick’s dog murder is funny.
04. Rush will surely attract scores of female fans to the Edward Jones Dome.
05. Rush will help promote the NFL’s youth health initiatives.
06. Rush has a strong knowledge of sports gambling.
07. Rush will not welcome liberals at Edward Jones Dome.
09. Rush is ready to liquidate a couple of NFL teams.
10. Rush has compared other football owners to rapists.

Be sure to head over to True/Slant and read the details behind each of the top ten hits. It's insanely, ummm humorous? Depressing?

The NFL and team owners should get an earfull about Limbaugh's proposed purchase of the Rams. Even if it can't be blocked, at least let the leaugue know it is playing with fire in possibly alienating a large segment of its fan base. The NFL does not like controversy...and they love money.

My thoughts exactly. Wouldn't black players resent being owned by Limbaugh? Wouldn't Rush's history of drug abuse pose a moral turpitude problem? Limbaugh's ownership of the Rams will probably not happen.

Moral turpitude only applies to players, not owners, I suspect. Eddie DeBartolo of the 49ers got in trouble with a barmaid, and nothing was done. But when Eddie had problems with owning casinos along the Gulf Coast, and fraud by the ownership groups, he was out.

Meanwhile we've got Al Davis of the Raiders, who must have dementia, because nobody could be that stupid on purpose.

This may be another strategy to block funding to the Democrats...

The conservatives have been attacking Democratic supporters, as can be seen in the years long attack on ACORN and other unions, corporations, and people that support the political party. Their bullying would be equivalent to the Democrats going undercover to discredit the Young Republicans, and if they were to use O'Keefe's methods, formulate a hypothesis that the Young Republicans are a bunch of immoral racists, and then entrap them.

Better yet, it would be like a top Democratic supporter buying out Amway, and canceling all contributions to the Republican Party.

If Limbaugh succeeds, he will no doubt pursue the reversal of campaign contributions. This could be an alarming precedent, and I would caution those to watch out for conservatives trying to buy out liberal allies...

I'd go with insanely depressing. However, I'd rather he buy a useless sports team than a newspaper to join Murdoch and co. in a never ending quest to brainwash the nation in both print and radio/video.

I am a DIE-HARD Rams fan, but if Boss Limpballs owns them, my days as a Ram fan are over.

If I were the NFL, I'd think twice before letting el Fathead own a team. They may be very surprised--and not amused--at just how quickly half of their fan base turns up missing.

I'm with you on this one. I stopped rooting for them when they gave up Jerome Bettis for the rights to draft that ass, Lawrence Phillips. I'd do it again. I'd even burn my hat (I'd keep my Marshall Faulk jersey though. Heh.).

I'm not a Rams fan, but if he bought my local football team (The Texans) I'd never support them or watch them again. Just what I'd love to see if I went to a game - a huge picture of Rush in the middle of the field advertising his propaganda hour. I'd become a Patriots fan (like all the front runners).

#11: New slogan, "Let's face it, some of my players are black" not popular with many fans.

This will be truly sad! I live in St. Louis! I never really was a Rams fan, but now I will never be! Even if they do have a good season. The shame of the decent of this football team's ownership. WOW!

I for one am looking forward to Rush putting together a winning NFL team with only white players.
