Checketts statement: Limbaugh dropped because his "involvement... has become a complication... endangering our bid"

October 14, 2009 7:56 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From an October 14 washingtonpost.com blog post:

A potential ownership group that is attempting to purchase the St. Louis Rams has dropped radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh as an investor.

The group includes Dave Checketts, the chairman of hockey's St. Louis Blues, and announced the decision to drop Limbaugh on Wednesday.

"Rush was to be a limited partner--as such, he would have had no say in the direction of the club or in any decisions regarding personnel or operations," Checketts said in a written statement. "This was a role he enthusiastically embraced.

"However, it has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis. As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion."

Too bad. Now Rush, don't get discouraged. Get back on that horse and try again. Don't let those horrible things you've said about people deter you in any way. You can do it.

Mr. Checketts, what kind of lame-brain are you? Do you know or have you ever listened to Rush? Can the color of money be so blinding? Or is this team so bad that you had to scrap the bottom of the beasts belly for money?

New idea...Why doesn't Hannity become an investor? He would probably have a better chance? Hear that Sean, you would be considered nicer than Rush. You better fire up some hate.

The difference between Hannity and Rush is that Rush plans his nasty comments while Dean is just a little slower and not as bright.

On talk radio in my town, some caller said that Rush was being blackballed because some people don't like his politics. I shouted at the radio "Have you ever listened to Rush?"

      Another thought..

Pres. Obama got a prize without even trying or chasing it...
      Rush couldn't buy a prize...

Rush the Magic Douchebag, version 1.0
(sung to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon")

(Work in progress, final version may be altered.)

      Rush the Magic Douchebag
      Talked about D.C.
      Even though he knew
      nothing at all
      The hatemonger's fav emcee!

      Little Jonny Liberal
gets it in the ass from Rush
      Even though he's wrong
      He'll never know
      he's on a pill-induced rush!

      (chorus)
      We all know he's racist
and that he likes his pills.
      And that he believes
      that only he's
the cure for all our ills!

      (Chorus)
      (repeat chorus, fade out)

CHECKETTS: "Rush was to be a limited partner--as such, he would have had no say in the direction of the club or in any decisions regarding personnel or operations,"

Whoaaa there...that's not exactly what Limbaugh has been saying. Limbaugh has been saying that the group he was a part of was actually going to run the team...and that was one of the reasons he was looking forward to the purchase. Now, the head honcho, Checketts, says that Limbaugh would not have had any say in the operations of the club. Limbaugh has been implying that he, personally, was going to be involved in the team's decisions. Who's lying? I don't know anything about Checketts but I do know Rush Limbaugh is a chronic liar.

I'm betting old El-Rushbo will be in rare form on the his radio show Thursday.

Will he play the race card, the victim card, first amendment rights violated, or all of them?

Glad to see MMFA patting itself on the back for its complicity in the media hatchet job on Limbaugh. The majority of the opposition was based on made-up racist comments attributed to Limbaugh. MMFA has shown its true colors in failing to retract the story it trumpeted here that listed those false comments. MMFA can continue to portray itself as a purveyor of media integrity, but its failure to retract the story proves MMFA has no journalistic integrity, only a left-wing propaganda agenda.

Glad to see MMFA patting itself on the back for its complicity in the media hatchet job on Limbaugh.

Limbaugh's wounds were self-inflicted, as any thinking person knows.

The majority of the opposition was based on made-up racist comments attributed to Limbaugh.

If anyone made up racist comments, it wasn't MMFA; everything they quoted was absolutely true and verified.

MMFA has shown its true colors in failing to retract the story it trumpeted here that listed those false comments.

MMFA showed its true colors by quoting true statements. Which of the many that they quoted are you now claiming was not true? Why did you never, in the many previous threads, say "Rush didn't say that!"?

MMFA can continue to portray itself as a purveyor of media integrity, but its failure to retract the story proves MMFA has no journalistic integrity, [sic--it's] only a left-wing propaganda agenda.

And ky-dim goes off the rails once again. One almost feels sorry for him.

I wasn't aware that having audio and video clips was considered making stuff up.

MMFA has shown its true colors in failing to retract the story it trumpeted here that listed those false comments.

If it's on the record, (and in the Lexis Nexis database) you don't have to retract it.

        Jackass.

MMFA can continue to portray itself as a purveyor of media integrity, but its failure to retract the story proves MMFA has no journalistic integrity, only a left-wing propaganda agenda.

Rule one in the Conservative Agenda playbook:

        1) When caught, either lie, deflect attention on a scapegoat, or preferably, both.

kydem09, you are what Limbaugh is a cyst on the a$$h0le of America. As Olbermann says, you are a "Big bag full of mashed-up jackass there."

You and Political Left have no idea. You see bits of what you want to see then make up your decision. Look and watch the 12 hours of all the evidence and you will see the truth. Idiots!

Here's the thing... I did. His comments throughout his 20+ year career are not only racially charged, but purposefully so. I used to be a dittohead when I was 16, until my 23rd birthday, when I realized his dual-nature. It's not about seeing what I want to see, it's about seeing what's there. How was there any call for a comment like "[M]inorities never do anything for which they have to apologize." Or "The government's been taking care of [young blacks] their whole lives." The reason the study (which he is refuting, BTW) said that many young black people feel alienated by the government is because of disproportional representation in government. How are you supposed to feel a connection to your government if you aren't properly represented? And yet, did Rush refute the statistics? No. He race-baited. The FIRST sign of a bigot.

And it is indeed racist to stereotype black people as ALL being bad swimmers. I myself have known some very STRONG swimmers who were black. Why would Rush even USE that stereotype? And the one about the Hispanic tribe (All this from his Survivor quote) showing remarkable ability to "Cross borders?" There HAS to be a better way of phrasing these things! Does he? No. Does he care? No.

Racists like the KKK and the Aryan Nation don't care either. And, Like Limbaugh, they don't apologize either.

Somehow, JamesW, I get the feeling that it will be a badge of honor being called an "idiot" by someone like you. Please get back to me when you actually think you can refute one of my points.
