Also, how exactly is he not qualified? Is he more or less qualified than the horse show guy Bush put in charge of FEMA? Is he more or less qualified than V.P pick Palin?
Even giving the Republicans the benefit of the doubt, and believing that they are acting out of the best interests of the country rather than partisan childishness, they have not actually discussed his qualifications. Has he attended school? Has he relevant experience? Dunno. The Republicans don't say. But, Obama appointed him, so he must go.
Right. Very very very far right.
Is it sad when you can't even get all of the House Republicans to sign on?
Equally troubling is Mr. Jennings' self-described history of ignoring the sexual abuse of a child. In his book, One Teacher in Ten, Mr. Jennings recounts a 15-year old student confiding in him that he had a sexual relationship with a much older man. Mr. Jennings' only response was to ask if the underage boy used a condom. As a mandatory reporter, Mr. Jennings was required by law to report child abuse, including sex crimes. Mr. Jennings cannot serve as the "safe schools" czar when his record demonstrates a willingness to overlook the sexual abuse of a child.
Yes, if there was a sexual relationship between a 15 yr old (of either sex) and an adult (of either sex), and that teenager told a teacher (a mandatory reporter of suspected sexual abuse or statutory rape), then that would have an obligation to report it.
But the kid was 16. As such, the kid was of legal age to consent to sex with anyone. And as such, the teacher had an obligation to protect the teenager's privacy.
Jennings didn't ignore sexual abuse. He was never made aware of any sexual abuse. There were no sex crimes since the kid was 16. He didn't overlook any abuse or any statutory rape.
