GOP arm Fox Nation dubs House health bill "PelosiCare"

October 29, 2009 10:17 am ET by Matt Gertz

I opened up Fox Nation this morning to see the following headline:

Fox Nation: Dems to Unveil 'PelosiCare'

Despite the quotes around the word, there is no one quoted in the AP article Fox Nation links to calling the House Democrats' health care reform bill "PelosiCare."

Opponents of the Clintons' reform proposal cooked up the terms "HillaryCare" and "ClintonCare" in the 1990s; more recently, they've dubbed reform efforts "ObamaCare." You may recall that earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal reported that "Republicans are stepping up attacks on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, deciding that a major part of their 2010 electoral strategy will be linking Democratic candidates to her."

Maybe this is all just a coincidence, but it seems far more likely that it's just another example of how Fox News is the communications arm of the Republican Party.

      This is awesome.

These asinine labels they keep coming up with just make it so much easier to quickly identify stupidity.

When I hear "government option" or "enhanced interrogation methods," I know right away I'm listening to a moron reciting talking points.

You need to copyright that phrase before someone steals it.

You might as well copyright "Republic of Stupid and Angry," because it's only a matter of time before those two nations unite.

        Hear, hear to that!
Nah, we really should be more open-minded and check out Fox occasionally, but I heartily appreciate the sentiment.
The term "PelosiCare" along with the picture of the aged-looking Speaker reminds us, first of all, that any woman past her mid-20s or so can have a bad hair day and people can get unflattering photos of them. Heck, I've seen unflattering photos of the babealicious Jennifer Connelly, so c'mon guys.
Second, seems that "ObamaCare" met the same fate as "Socialism," it's a word that no one really understands to begin with, so it's easily seen as a good thing rather than as a bad thing.

In order to keep an open mind, I try to browse some of the right wing sites. The problem is, other than the few laughs I get, I usually can't stomach it for too long. The worst part isn't the articles or blog entries, it is the accompanying comments. A LOT of those tend to be very vitriolic at best.

In 1993, it was HillaryCare, which only goes to show that the right-wing hasn't displayed a scrap of imagination in 16 years.

And why, one might ask, is there never a "-Care" title attached to a Republican? Because they don't.
