Pat Caddell? Why would anyone believe Pat Caddell?

November 06, 2009 4:07 pm ET by Oliver Willis

The Chicago Tribune, on its Swampland blog, has a story today claiming that the White House contacted a Democratic "strategist" and told him or her not to appear on Fox News. The strategist is unnamed, and the White House has vehemently denied the charge. The one voice in the Swampland piece bolstering the claim is Pat Caddell, former pollster for Jimmy Carter. Caddell is a Fox News contributor, and despite his work for President Carter has a documented history of furthering conservative misinformation.

Since his affiliation with Carter, Caddell has attacked the Clinton administration, Janet Reno, and the Democratic party itself. Caddell was recently featured on The Glenn Beck Show decrying what he described as the "gangster politics" of the Obama administration.

So, maybe not the best person to back up an anonymous claim showing a Democratic administration in a negative light.

He's Beck's 'token' democrat. Which is bull. If he stands for liberal principles then he has yet to openly identitfy which principles those are... All he does is Shill for conservatives on Fox. I could care less if he was a democrat 30 years ago. Today he is nothing more than a fox news contributor.

      The Fever Swamp...

It's pretty amazing this garbage would be on a blog from the Chicago Tribune.

Caddell has certainly learned the Fixed News playbook: Lie, smear, anything goes. He'll probably get a promotion for this one

I laugh every time I turn on Fox and see Caddell or any of the other "Democratic Strategists". Even more funny is when the wingnuts post here, mentioning them as evidence of Fox's fair and balanced reporting.

I guess anybody who only spends 90% of their air time smearing liberals, or apologizing for how horrible Dems are, but tosses in a feeble defense of the left in the other 10% of their appearance, is considered an "opposing viewpoint" to those who think Fox is "news".

The Tribune's blog is called "The Swamp". "Swampland" is the name of Time's blog.
