Murdoch agrees with Beck that Obama is a racist

November 09, 2009 8:53 pm ET by Media Matters staff

Back in July, after Glenn Beck called President Obama a racist, NBC News' First Read blog stated:

What's most amazing about this episode is that what Beck said isn't a fireable or even a SUSPENDABLE offense by his bosses. There was a time when outrageous rants like this would actually cost the ranters their jobs. But not anymore; if anything, it's now encouraged

Today, we found out why there were no repercussions whatsoever for Beck's comment - his boss agrees with him. As Think Progress noted, in an interview with Sky News Australia, Rupert Murdoch said of the comment:

On the racist thing, that caused a grilling. But he did make a very racist comment. Ahhh...about, you know, blacks and whites and so on, and which he said in his campaign he would be completely above. And um, that was something which perhaps shouldn't have been said about the President, but if you actually assess what he was talking about, he was right.

So there you have it. Fox News' host calls the president of the United States a racist, Fox News' owner agrees with him, and Fox News' president has a long history of appealing to racial fears and biases for political gain as a Republican strategist. But of course, Fox News is a legitimate news organization.

It was hard to keep up with all the lies in that interview of Murdoch. Note that the interview was by his own employee at Sky News Australia, which he owns.

One of my favorite lies was his claim that none of his people had likened Obama to Stalin. I wonder what he thinks this is from Glenn Beck's program:

Murdoch also lied about other networks not having on Republicans. The truth, however, is that Fox does not have now, nor ever has had, a program hosted by a Democrat/liberal. CNN has Lou Dobbs, Nancy Grace, and until a few months ago, Glenn Beck. MSNBC currently has a three hour morning show hosted by conservative former congressman Joe Scarborough. They have also employed Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, and Michael Savage.

Lying is a way of life for Murdoch and Fox.

From now on anyone who makes an outright BOLD lie should be referred to as "A Murdoch".

(e.g. - I have robbed 1,000 banks and have gotten away with it.
        Really?
        No, I Murdoched.)

Somehow... I get the feeling that even if this where shown and described to every Cluster Fox viewer as if they were 4th graders... they still would not accept it!

Fox Noise is as useful to the public discourse of America as a hole in the head is to a long healthy life!

Silly me, I keep forgetting that the wingnut definition of racism is when a black person says something about race. Whenever they whine about Obama "breaking his campaign promise," what they really mean is that they don't want to him to say anything at all about race.

Yeah, I think you nailed it there. There's nothing Obama has said that is "racist," Murdoch's view of "racism" is exactly as you've couched it; when a black person speaks about race.

Oh, he is quite aware of what he is referring to. The code message is "I am so afraid if they (minorities, Muslims, Atheists, etc) come to power, they will do to us what we have been doing and have done in the past to them. We are scared s...less. We will not be strong enough to withstand the onslought because our personal constitution is weak and we have no soul. So, we must attempt to destroy them again before they become powerful enough to destroy us.

Not so long ago, these partisans were somewhat conscious of matters of form, which is to say, they had a sense about certain things coming across badly if said by the wrong personalities. Now we have one of the most famous fat-cat oligarchic old white guys apparently oblivious to how he comes across reaffirming what was essentially their recent and short-lived set of talking points in support of a hypothetical Roger Ailes candidacy for president. "Tin ear" would be too deceptively kind to describe the net PR effects of these statements.

Actually, my favorite part is that he called Sean Hannity "a pretty academic conservative".

      ACADEMIC?

Sean Hannity never graduated college. Sean Hannity doesn't even hold an Associate's degree from a community college. He's published two completely casual and opinion driven lay books. THAT'S IT.

So how is he even remotely "academic"?

Emanating vibes tell me something's up with mogul Murdoch going down. Like, he's thrashing around desperately trying to stay afloat, but, no help, he's going down. glub glub

Simply that he 'gave' this interview indicates something's tipped into (his version of) Trouble, somewhere in the reclusive sanctum -- the back room's burning. Then, that he comes out swinging 'in-your-black-face,Obama,' amplifies the sense that Murdoch is on slippery marbles, off balance, failing and falling. ... 'methinks Murdog doth protesteth 'racist' too much' ....

And this episode is only the latest in a string of FOX epic fails, prominently including Beck's shooting sponsors in their face, yet perhaps more money-mattered is other media blackballing FOX out of the fraternity, ostracized, following The White House lead; (... supporting the Administration so as not to become the next channel cut off from the 'get' I don't know it's hard to say). It's boring to list all the FOX fail, and too many to remember anyway.

What's IMPORTANT is: How small an effort it takes to topple a tipping turkey -- IF applied at the off-balance moment.

BOYCOTT the Cable TV BUNDLE -- BOYCOTT ALL the channels in the bundle -- until they kick FOX out.

Hate addicts should have to Pay Per View for their fix; put FOX in the Premium Price Tier.

"Small effort" means only about 50,000 subscribers together in one month calling up the cable company and saying, "I cancel cable, this house won't pay no more cable fees until FOX is blackballed OUT OF the Basic BUNDLE." Perhaps we don't have to actually cancel the payment, simply calling in all together saying the same thing then they can read the phone ringing on the wall. Indeed, actually canceling payment may not end the cable pictures -- which often keep coming even after we write CANCEL on the invoice.

In another aspect, the economic crash leaves many households unable to afford cable tv ... and where we know someone in such a budget bind it might offer a lift to their spirits knowing they can Cancel Cable TV on principle, without embarrassment -- LOUD and DIGNIFIED to the cable co. "Either we cancel you or you cancel FOX."

That's actually a good idea and I think it would work. The problem I think is internet access which I guess one would have to get through DSL. My cable company bundles it with the basic cable package (which includes FOX). It would also work if it was a national campaign but it would succeed I think in making FOX NEWS like HBO, a premium channel. Whether this would destroy their ability to operate the way they do I don't know.

That Murdoch is himself a racist is plainly evident. Look at who he hires and puts in positions of power in his company. Roger Ailes has a long history of racist statements and race baiting. He courted Glenn Beck over to his network who has displayed his racism openly on his sleeve and now we hear he's trying to get Lou Dobbs to switch to Fox News.

But good to hear it straight from his mouth. The sad thing is there will be no repercussions for Murdoch for plainly admitting he thinks Obama (who's mother is white and was raised by white grandparents) is racist against white people. The root of the problem is that Fox News' audience is primarily older white families and their children (whom they have brainwashed) who are themselves racist. They are racist so they search out programming that fits their views. This is ultimately why Fox News is thriving. It is a platform for the pent up racism that still exists in America. The baby boomer generation and the generation just before them still are homophobic, pro-life, and afraid of diversity. Fox News caters to that crowd and the owner is obviously a part of that crowd.

Murdoch and Fox gave positive coverage for eight years to Bush and Cheney. Fox has spent two years trying to destroy Obama. Why?
      Murdoch is a racist.

The right wing got their war with Iraq because many Americans believed the lies that Murdoch and Fox were spreading about the possibilty of a mushroom cloud over the United States if we did not act and invade a country that had many people of color and alot of oil.

Obama was against the war in Iraq. Colin Powell told the administration that if you break it you own it. Powell was told that he was no longer needed and resigned.

Murdoch and Fox loath the fact that two African-American leaders were correct on the the biggest blunder ever made by a president and his supporters. There was no reason to be fighting two wars and destroying the American economy in the processs. Bush and Cheney left office without paying a dime for either war.

Obama is being told to account for every dime while he tries to give all Americans healthcare. Why the double standard?

Obama has been dealt a tough hand. People like Murdoch and the Fox news gang should stop hating and start praying that he can clean up the mess Bush and Cheney have left behind.

These idiots, alone with Republicans and conservatives will say anything about Obama because they know they won't be held accountable, just like Glen Beck was not held accountable for his ridiculous "racist" accusation.

Nothing happens to Rush Limbaugh for attacking and criticizing the President relentlessly with baseless claims.
Nothing happens to Sean [Klan]nity for making up things and lying on this President.

Folks can be in denial and dumb-founded all they want, but it is clear why these racist, immature people get away with un-patriotic and un-American sentiments. The President is Black!!: it's as simple as that.

"white folks greed runs a world in need"

It's obvious that the entire quote is just a little too complicated for you to comprehend, so you continually post a section which you think suits your view that President Obama is a racist.

Here's the entire quotes by Rev. Wright, that Obama quoted in "Dreams of my Father".

"It's is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere....That's the world! On which hope sits!"

I cannot understand why that quotes strikes you as racist.

Don't cruise ship throw away massive amounts of food?

Is Haiti not one of the poorest countries in the world?

Are America, China and Europe not the wealthiest countries and the largest consumers of resources?

Seriously, YOU don't have a clue about racism, and sadly, you probably never will!
