New York Post claims that in the House's "health-care horror," "vital medical decisions would need Washington's OK"

November 10, 2009 5:59 am ET by Media Matters staff

From the New York Post's November 10 editorial:

Late Saturday night, House Democrats slipped through the largest piece of legislation America's seen in decades.

If it becomes law, it would radically alter American life in countless ways -- for the worse.

[...]

The pain would kick in as soon as 2011, putting at risk any chance of economic recovery. (No wonder gold soared past $1,000 an ounce yesterday.)

And vital medical decisions would need Washington's OK, meaning they'd be based on political considerations.

All told, a huge setback for America, yet one possibly headed your way soon.

Okay lets say all this crap is true (which it isn't). I would rather have a government bureaucrat making that decision than a corporate bureaucrat who's year end bonus depends on how much he doesn't spend.

A right-winger I've been having an email correspondence with asked me yesterday "So when does all this stuff kick in?" I was aware that progressive blogs had fretted over how long the bill would take to start taking effect (We've got Congressional mid-terms coming up in just a year, it'd be nice for our guys to have something to brag about), so I was pleased to see on the Speaker's website that there's a PDF that claims that there are Top 14 Provisions That Take Effect Immediately.
So, I'm pleased to say that the NYP actually overstates how long it will take for the bill's effects to be felt!
