Candle-wielding clergymen "threatening" Lieberman -- the HORROR!

November 17, 2009 12:23 pm ET by Brian Frederick

Leave it to the right-wing blog machine to turn a candlelight vigil on the sidewalks outside Sen. Joe Lieberman's home into a torch-wielding mob of "leftist goons" "threatening" Lieberman and his family. "The radical left is now threatening Joe Lieberman and his family at his home for his stand against nationalized health care," writes Gateway Pundit's Jim Hoft. The post features a picture of the protest, which Gateway Pundit has helpfully labeled "leftist goons." Of course, the crowd in the protest looks anything but "threatening" -- rather bored, actually -- but let's review the reporting on the protest.  Fortunately, Gateway Pundit provides us a recap from the "far left" Stamford Advocate:

Quietly holding candles, hundreds of clergymen, congregants and reform advocates lined the sidewalks outside Independent U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman's Stamford home Sunday night in a show of support for universal health care.

Who hasn't felt threatened by a group of people "quietly holding candles"? Especially "clergymen" quietly holding candles"?

Gateway Pundit also links to video of the rally and states: "They weren't just praying. They were chanting outside his home."

Chanting? Really?

And in the coup de grace (of stupidity), Hoft writes: "Last night they brought candles... Tomorrow?"

Incense?

Potpourri?

I think Gateway Pundit's slogan needs a minor modification.

It currently reads: "Where Hope Finally Made A Comeback."

It would be more accurate this way: "Where Hope Finally Made A Comeback, But Alas, The Team Was Already Losing 77-0 With Two Minutes To Go In The Fourth Quarter, Our Quarterback Is Rush Limbaugh, Our Running Back Is Glenn Beck And Our Coach Is Sarah Palin."

Little help here, Teabaggers? I know it's wooden stakes for vampires, and silver bullets for werewolves, but do candles kill Jews? I'm not that well-versed in wingnut mythology.

This is terrible, just downright terrible. Left wing, commie, fascist goons, standing quietly with candles to protest turncoat Joe's position.

The liberal leftist media must have been advertising 24/7 to get this rally off the ground. I'll bet that the media that was promoting this out of control left wing protest, probably told them (maybe even supplied) to hold candles, and even to stay orderly.

I'm asking you, what in the world is going on here. This marks the end of the United States of America.

When the conservatives gather with dreadful signage and disturbing messages....it's like.....oh Heaven on Earth....but when the concerned citizens of CT want to peacefully show their dismay....whoa, Nellie!!!!! Here they come...pull up the paddy wagons.

So clergymen holding candles is threatening but protestors carrying automatic weapon to a town hall, holding signs that read "We came unarmed (this time)" to the D.C. 9/12 protest, and likening health care reform to the holocaust, are just concerned and upstanding American citizens exercising their right to free speech?
