O'Donnell responds to Beck's attacks on her over interview with Palin supporter

November 19, 2009 3:44 pm ET by Brian Frederick

In November 19 comments on Twitter, MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell responded to Glenn Beck's attacks on her over an interview she conducted the previous day with a Sarah Palin supporter.  During that interview, O'Donnell asked the supporter about Palin's 2008 support for the economic bailout.

O'Donnell's responses:

According to the girls' twitter account, Jackie says she is 17.

@savethiscountry haha 13? I get that all the time.. I dont look 17

O'Donnell is wrong on one count, but the girl is going to vote in the next election and appears to be very politically active. I say she was fair game.

On Jackie's twitter account, she says that the guy with her was "some random guy":

@SoccerSealUSA Yep, but who was Joe that she interviewed just before and just after you?

So what this tells us is that the girl LIED to Norah O'Donnell, telling her that she voted in the last election when she really didn't.

O'Donnell wasn't wrong. The girl lied. O'Donnell was only repeating what the girl had told her. I mean, what did you think, that she verified her voting record or something? The only reason O'Donnell told us via Twitter that the girl voted last year was because the girl told her that.

And repeating a lie doesn't make the person repeating the lie 'wrong'. It makes the original person who told the lie a liar.

And now the girl is lying more, saying that she didn't tell Norah O'Donnell that she voted in the last election - yeah, like Norah would invent that!

But this girl is already lost - she's got all the worst traits of the lamest, most ignorant trolls here. Go to this link if you don't believe me!

DellDolly, could you please provide some support for that claim. The girl in question writes emphatically that Norah O'Donnell never asked her her age nor whether she voted.

What is the source of your accusation that this young girl is lying? That you believe Norah O'Donnell over her because Norah wouldn't just make that up?

Why would Norah O'Donnell even bring it UP if she hadn't been told?

I don't believe Norah because Norah wouldn't make things up. I believe Norah because she'd have no reason to say it unless she had been told that. Her evidence that the girl wasn't 13 was that the girl told her that she had voted in the previous election, so she relayed that info to us. If she had no idea how old the girl was, why would ANYONE invent THAT lie? Think about it - you don't know how old someone who looks like a teenager is - WHY on god's green earth would you ever think to say that she told you that she voted in last year's election, so she's got to be at least 18 or 19 now? That's just not something one would pull out of their butts to claim! But it IS something that this girl, any girl, would lie about - how old she was, thinking that no one would ever know that she lied about it, not thinking ahead at all, like most 17 year olds wouldn't think about how lying about their age might get them in trouble later!

Did you go to the link I provided? Her posting is so full of idiotic nonsense it's obscene! She is so uninformed it's ridiculous - she's full of preconceived notions that have no basis in reality, such as the fact that she is stunned that MSNBC would ever even consider sending a reporter to monitor Sarah Palin's first book signing! She's so detached from reality it's silly. Her Dad bragged about her interaction with the reporter!!! How out of touch with reality is HE that he thinks that she did well in that interaction?

Two peas in a pod, and so like so many Palin supporters. Palin has almost nothing good to say about her, if one looks at the factual information available, yet she has plenty of supporters (a small percentage in the USA, but that's still millions of Americans), and that's only because people are ignorant and happy to delude themselves.

Prove it. Camera crew with tape, show me the clip of the girl saying she voted in the last election.

You can’t get better evidence than the tape where the girl says she voted in the last election.

I’m sure MSNBC documents Everything, after all that IS their job as a NEWS organization.

No tape, Nora is lying and should be fired immediately.

If she had no idea how old the girl was, why would ANYONE invent THAT lie?”

CYA. Remember that reporter that got fired from CNN for attacking/arguing with a protester back in April?
That guy was an adult this kid is a minor.

Do you really think MSNBC wants to be known as the network that attacks and argues with children?

What’s next? Olbermann debating an 8 year-old? Calls the 8 year-old “Worst kid in the world!”

When it “appears” your attacking a “minor” on National TV it LOOKS BAD!
Odds are, it’s a firing offence.

Fact is she should be fired for going after a civilian in the line, kid or not. Her job is to “report” the news NOT make the NEWS!

I spotted Norah O’Donnell and Andrea Mitchell right off the bat and couldn’t believe they were there.. I mean I thought they hated Sarah Palin. {Yeah, because we all know that journalists (and their bosses too) let their personal emotions (not their personal political beliefs, their emotions) affect their job assignments!} I thought Sarah Palin had no impact, she was a nobody yet they send their 2 big guns to cover her book tour.

I said, “As a young female she is someone I can look up to, before her the only prominent female in politics I had known about was Hilary Clinton, whom I respect don’t get me wrong, I respect her but when you don’t agree with someone it’s hard to really look up to them. I like how Sarah Palin will speak her mind, regardless of what the media will say about it.”

                I knew I was walking into hot water with MSNBC- thought I was prepared….Seconds later I met her… One of the many faces of liberal media bias. {God, maybe she is only 17 - LOL}

She had me read my shirt and then proceeded to ask me “Did you know Sarah Palin supported the bailout” to be 100% honest I was like, are you kidding me? She is trying to use my shirt against me. I was so shocked by the craftiness she had that I was truly stumped. I asked her where she got her fact and she read her little note. Then she asked me what I liked about Sarah, and I talked about the Constitution.

                --------------------------

So, here we have another example of someone claiming victim status. Omigod, O'Donnell "used (her) shirt against" her! No, you were just too ignorant to understand what Palin actually stood for and stands for and your ignorance and your conceit got you in trouble. You're no victim, despite your desire to paint yourself as a victim in order to avoid having responsibility for your lack of education on Palin's stances on issues!

In Glum Bleek's dreams. Says a great deal more about him that it does about either the young lady or Ms. O'Donnell.

Notice the first time he mentioned her alleged age, Glum Bleek estimated it. From then on he repeated the low end of his estimate as a fact.

Glum Bleek said the young lady was selected from the "fifteen hundred" people who were there. Another "Factor 10" (c) ClusterFox Crowd Estimate - stated as a fact.

Glum Bleek mocked the fact Ms. O'Donnell used notes to get The Gov'Nor's quote correct. What the heck is the matter with that? It's further proof ClusterFox is not "fact-based."

Just by this response from Beck, which makes no sense whatsoever, proves to me this guy is not only a dry drunk but his meds have taken over any reasonable train of thought, along the lines of his new BFF Palin. Ms. Odonnell asked a reasonable question to a young woman who was obviously of age to vote.

Let's see if (once again) Glenn gives a tearful apology later today on his tv show at FoxNews. That's right. After all, when Obama took office, we had a fairly large budget surplus, and he immediately changed that to a huge deficit by making enormous increases in spending while giving his rich buddies a series of tax cuts. His fiscal irresponsibility is unprecedented!

It is amusing that Norah used a quote that only stated Gov. Palin supported the idea of the elected leaders meeting and discussing the situation.Nowhere can you see that she supported the resulting plan.
John McCain suspended his campaign to meet with other elected leaders. It is interesting to note that the current occupant of the White House did not do the same, and indeed indicated that he did not think it wise that John McCain did.

That's not how I remember it. Both Obama and McCain went to the White House meeting on the TARP. McCain was grandstanding about how he was about to save the country from a depression. But at the meeting McCain totally bombed out. Obama was in charge and really shined.

What might amuse you even more is that the reason might just be that the event was for Palin and not Obama, McCain or anybody else who spoke out in support of the bailout. The t-shirt demonstrated the disconnect between Palin's actions and her follower's apparent projection of their own views onto what they believe Palin believes.

And Palin couldn't have voted for or against the bailout anyway. What's your point? And even if she publicly hinted at supporting the bailout, isn't that what VP candidates are supposed to do? Toe the line with the person running for President. I seem to recall Biden reluctantly toeing the line many times.

What Palin believes or doesn't believe now is irrelevant to what Barry is trying to do. She's not a member of Congress, therefore has no voice on any of the matters.

Which really begs the question why the left is so pathologically fixated on Palin. She's a private citizen that has not indicated any desire to run for office. What is there to be afraid of?

The girl certainly looks like an adolescent, and if open_mind's twitter link is indeed to the same girl, then she is 17. I wonder where Norah got the impression that she had already voted.

I thought the assertion about Palin's position on the bailout was vapid. One would expect a VP candidate to back the presidential candidate's public position on the issues or the ticket will be in serious trouble. Even sillier was the follow-up question about the Enumerated Powers (limited government) That's too complex a subject to meaningfully explain in a soundbite. My first response would have been "Are you prepared to roll tape for another 3 minutes? This is going to take awhile."
