Advertising with Beck pays off

November 23, 2009 6:16 pm ET by Matt Gertz

Let it never be said that Glenn Beck fails to repay those who are loyal to him.

On his show today, Beck told his audience that they should buy gold to protect themselves in the event of a U.S. economic collapse. Minutes later, that same audience was treated to a commercial for Goldline International, featuring a "gold investor and a Goldline client" who cited "our government spending trillions of dollars and counting" and "a debt that will burden our children and grandchildren for years to come" as reasons to buy their product. I wonder how many of Beck's viewers called their hotline on the spot?

Gold investment firms are among Beck's most loyal advertisers. If you follow our regular County Fair post documenting the companies running ads on Beck's program, you know that at least four such firms run ads on Beck's show: Goldline International, Rosland Capital, Superior Gold Group and Merit Financial. Rosland and Goldline in particular run ads on virtually every edition of the program.

Eighty advertisers have reportedly dropped their ads from Beck's Fox News program since he called President Obama a "racist" who has a "deep-seated hatred of white people." The gold companies are among the last ones that still want to be associated with Beck.

Today, they got their reward.

I'm surprised gun manufacturers haven't caught on to the bonanza of cheap advertising and a captive audience, or is there FCC regulation of advertising gun sales on television?

Did see a commercial for Henry Rifles while channel surfing this evening on cable, so there must not be a regulation banning such.

To me these 'buy gold' companies are one notch above pawn shops so yea, whatever....it's a good fit.

Besides, even a complete moron knows gold is worth something so again.....a good fit with the fan base.

Eddie Haskell Beck is not the first, nor will he be the last, broadcast personality (?) to tout his advertisers in an off hand way.

Of course the gold investment firms still buy ad time with Becky. And of course Becky promotes gold.

They're both in the fear game. Simple as that.

Gold traders are a fairly common advertiser on all the right-wing shows. The more out-there, the more you hear about opportunities to buy gold. Somehow it ends up that way.. Right-wingers preach economic collapse (via 'socialism'), and gold traders are ready to cash in on that.

I'm thinking about Art Bell, for instance, and the few times I've listened to Limbaugh, same thing. Lots of ads for gold traders.

Gold is out of my league....but as gold goes.... so does silver.... The gold industry knows that gold has hit an all time high... and most feel that it has all but peaked. Hence the big push on the pundits radio show. They also guarantee a buy back... buy now at 1100 hundred and when it tanks we will buy it back at 800... chuckles... I'll stick to silver thanks..
