Beck: "The allegations that I actually purchase one of the products I endorse may be shocking to some..."

Oh Glenn, you and your tedious failed attempts at cutting sarcasm. No one serious is faulting you for buying what you pitch. The serious accusation is that the content of your preachy, rambling commentary on a news network appears to be available for sale to advertisers.

And Glenn, it's not just the liberal blogs that are calling you out for this. I wouldn't exactly call Little Green Footballs a haven for lefties.

This video was an excruciating four minute advertisement for Goldline.

"allegation by liberal blogs"? Politico? Yahoo news? and...
      From a December 7 DailyFinance:
Fox News prohibits its on-air personalities from making paid product endorsements. But it makes an exception for its commentators who are also radio hosts, who are allowed to perform live reads...... But the exemption is meant only to apply to live reads, not to the kind of broader spokesmanship Beck, to all appearances, provides Goldline. In particular, Beck's ubiquity on the Goldline website is not in keeping with Fox's rules. A Fox spokeswoman said the network's legal department is taking up the matter with Beck's agent, George Hiltzik.

Still waiting to hear from Fox's legal department on this. It has been a week now. Is somebody "dithering"?

I suspect the 'dithering' in question is Mr. Murdoch trying to determine just what the house percentage is of Mr. Beck's price. Glenn, I say this as a dispassionate observer: If Mr. Murdoch threatens to take more than 30%, walk away. You can find a much better deal with some other pimp.

I'm Glenn Beck and welcome to my Pity Party. Meet my Straw Men guests. The straw man who accused me of not being a perfect person. The one who said I have a double chin. Those who said my hairline was thinning, and that I was pasty and overweight. Finally, here's the straw men who said gold was wildly fluctuating because of me and the one who said "it's bad to invest in something you believe in". Come indulge with me in my disingenuousness.

Let's see if I can get this straight...

If Al Gore were to sarcastically state, "ExcUUUUUUSE me for investing in carbon sequestration technology! I happen to *believe in it*..." then Glenn Beck would be OK with it and shut up about climate change?

      :(

How about that Carbonite (may vary) pop-up ad at the start?

Is Beck really so dense that he doesn't see the conflict of interest here (news vs paid promotion)?

He doean't view himself as a journalist. That is one reason he thinks he can get away with this. Fox likes to play it both ways, too. They like to say they present fair and balanced news, but people like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity are commentary, not news. Except that they keep trying to report things and make them news, like ACORN and Van Jones.

yeah, well considering his grade-school level of attempted "sarcasm", it's not hard to believe that he misses entirely the issue of conflict of interest which is so glaringly obvious. It is also easy to surmise that he misses the irony in the title one of his own books, unwittingly hilariously entitled "Arguing With Idiots"...

The real question is what is Rupert Murdoch's embarrassment tipping point? Beck is clearly a buffoon...and although he attracts attention he's not attracting a great deal of paying advertisers. Good chance that next year at this time Beck will be appearing exclusively on radio, having been relegated to the status of Michael Savage.

Maybe they had to switch to a different form of advertising. They couldn't get advertisers to pay for spots so now they are using program product placements and on air endorsements. Maybe Goldline had a hard time competing with the Egg Genie for air time...

      This guy is so stupid.

The point isn't he buys a product he endorses.

The point is he's a paid spokesman for Goldline and never reveals that during the editorial portion of his tv program while telling people to buy gold.

He hasn't addressed this conflict of interest. He doesn't even realize its a conflict of interest.

Say what you will about Maddow et al. and gold advertisements on their radio programs: none of them is a paid spokesman for a company the way Beck is. None of them pushes gold during the editorial portion of their tv programs the way Beck does.

I've yet to see anybody push gold on television while being a paid spokesman for a gold company the way Beck does without revealing he's a paid spokesman.

Beck's program should be labeled the same way infomercials are.
