Really, MSNBC?

December 15, 2009 12:03 pm ET by Jamison Foser

Check out this MSNBC graphic:

"Cougar"?  Really?

"Cougar," for the three people still blissfully unaware, is a slang term applied to women who date younger men.

Men who date younger women, on the other hand, are typically described with a slightly less loaded term: "men."

Good grief, MSNBC, we get enough of this dreck from FOX. Wise up.

Yeah, they really seem to love this story. One night last week, they kept showing a picture of one of Tiger's girls, and the camera started on her cleavage and panned up. They showed this over and over and over.

I like Keith and Rachel, but the network as a whole could use an overhaul.

I will agree with you. The have just been bought by Comcast. I hear that Comcast is a conservative, family company. I just hope they don't neuter Keith or Rachel.

I have to admit, when I go to the MSNBC sites for Countdown and TRMS, if I see a 'Tiger Woods' Story, I don't put it in my playlist.

The whole 'celebrity caught in scandal' thing reminds me of one of the headlines I was going to use in a 'generic news' page...

When I was a kid, I loved movie magazines. I read bunches of them, but as a grown-up, they don't do much for me. I don't read much of the celebrity gossip, and I wouldn't miss it if they dropped it from Keith or Rachel. However, I do look at the fashion photos. Some of the outfits on the faux pas spreads are just outrageous. But, I like the pretty gowns and hairstyles.

I'm sick of the Tiger destruction watch on ALL networks. He did something stupid, he's paying for it . . . ENOUGH!

As for the term "cougar," I find it to be extremely offensive.

I was one of the "three people still blissfully unaware" of the term, so I haven't had time to be truly offended by it. My wife has a nearly seven year advantage on me (she admits that she "robbed the cradle"), and once in a great while I can make a crack about her age, but I don't think I'm ever going to use the "cougar" term, because it sounds cheap and sleazy, which is the opposite of her character.

My husband is 32 and I just turned 42 (I forgot for a minute I had another birthday!!). I'll admit I robbed the cradle but the cougar term seems demeaning to me as well. I think it envisions an older woman who preys on younger men (not boys) just for a fun little fling. It doesn't apply to those of us who married much younger men!

Yesterday, my local morning DJ read an article about Tag Heuer and Tiger. They said that he was still the best golfer around and they didn't care about his private life. I cheered. Let him go back to playing golf, it is distracting from politics.

Okay, while we're wallowing in the gutter... has anyone else noticed the one physical attribute shared by all of Tiger's women, including his wife?

The guy may have a fixation...

But, in reality, it's none of our business. I'm ready for the story to go away, too.

OK, I'm lost! What physical attribute is that???? I hope its not the chest!!! I haven't paid any attention to Tiger's troubles so I haven't seen ALL his mistresses. All I know is the man must be a real tiger in bed to please that many women!!

I've mostly seen pics of their faces (admittedly, I'm not following the story very closely). What is it, Nerz ?

The whole thing is a non-story, and it would be nice if the media didn't get so obsessed with these celebrity scandals. I just find it funny that the American public demands this "family values" image in athletes, politicians, even actors and other entertainers in some cases, in order to consider them role models.

Then when relatively young, rich and famous guys run around, they're shocked. I'm not excusing anybody for cheating, but there does seem to be pressure on these guys to "settle down" for the sake of their public image.

I heard one of the MSNBC idiots this week say, "Well, the tabloids are having a field day with the Tiger Woods story. Here's what they're reporting..."

If you're reporting what the tabloids are reporting, then you are by definition ONE OF THE TABLOIDS.

Exactly. They're not even reporting what the tabloids are reporting in a metajournalism kind of way. They're scooping the tabloids and reporting celebrity gossip as news.

Could somebody please explain to me why I need to know about Tiger Woods' affairs? It sucks for his wife and all, but how is this anyone's business besides hers and Tiger's? Will this affect the war in Iraq? Afghanistan? the healthcare plan? the economy? women's right to choose?

BTW I'm going to start referring to older men who date younger women as wombats. Who's with me?

          I've said it before:

If a network aired a 2-hour special tonight about Tiger's affairs and another network aired a 2-hour special about Afghanistan or health care, the viewing ratio would be about 10 to 1.

We are idiots, and that's why they treat us like idiots.
