LA Times corrects Andrew Malcolm's bogus claim about Palin/Obama polling

December 15, 2009 2:02 pm ET by Eric Boehlert

Prompted by Media Matters, the Los Angeles Times posted this correction at Andrew Malcolm's blog:

FOR THE RECORD:
A Top of the Ticket post Tuesday on the relative popularity of Sarah Palin and Barack Obama erred in stating in the text and the headline that there was a Palin-Obama gap of 1 point. Two separate polls were cited, as the post notes, so the findings are not directly comparable.

Malcolm had used Palin's favorable rating and compared it to Obama's job approval rating, to make his false conclusion. It was the second time in three weeks that Malcolm had used the phony premise.

Here is some journalism to consider, a new twist on an old question.

Nerz, they were caught. If they hadn't been, they would have let it twist in the wind while cashing their checks from the Heritage Foundation.

I guess Malcolm thought that he could get away with blatant lies on his blog,

while he might have a somewhat more difficult time getting blatant lies into the newspaper.
