This big lie has gone "viral" to say the least. What the section basically say is that Congress responsibility to over look the Medicare Review board can't be abdicated without 60 votes to do so. Sounds to me that that Reid is trying to make sure that Congress will be the final say, not a "Review Board"
This claim is true in the trivial sense. By definition, the Congress cannot repeal a provision that has never existed.
This was actually a favorite tactic of the Bush 43 administration. Lie to people by saying something that was outrageously deceptive and dishonest but technically true.
A little more information here. In the Health Care bill, there is a provision to handle oversight of the Medicare Review board by Congress in an expedited fashion.
When Congress decides to override the board, it has to pass a bill in a "clean way", no amendments, no earmarks (Republicans should love that one), unless there are 60 votes to include the extraneous amendments.
If I'm not mistaken, Sarah Palin was honored for this whopper as the Biggest Political Lie of the Year by some news organization other than Kieth Olbermann. Sorry I can't remember which one; I heard it on the radio... maybe NPR.
The readers of Politifact.org voted from a list of about 8 lies and Sarah Palin's Death Panel lie won.
I don't think that Politifact, or the news groups that covered the selection, made it very clear that it was a reader poll that made that selection. Politifact was responsible for the list from which to choose a lie.
The conservative fear-factor technique continues. Just add "death" to anything you don't like to scare the beejeezus out of everyone.
Death tax, death panels, gimme a break.

The right wing has been burning up the Internet with "cut and paste" with DeMints BIG LIE on this one.

I'm sure Simple Sarah is very proud.
